NRL Ltd has seen increased business lead to expansion at their Wigan branch this year.
The Pemberton-based office has doubled its staff to 12 in the last year – and the firm is likely to take on more staff later this summer.
The expansion has come about because of rising opportunities in the nuclear sector. Decommissioning and legacy projects in the nuclear industry have seen contract and permanent vacancies soar for mechanical and electrical engineers, designers, planners and project managers. Most of the placements are at sites in Cheshire and Greater Manchester.
Permanent placements are now outstripping contract – Greg Compton, Wigan’s divisional manager, says: “In the first quarter of 2012 we filled as many permanent vacancies as in the whole of last year. Decommissioning work in the nuclear sector is mainly accounting for the growth of opportunities we’re seeing in permanent positions, and those in contracts too. We’re working very hard to fill these vacancies and are bringing on new staff to cope with the recruitment demand which we expect to be long-term.”
