1042394 - Appointed Person Lifting

NRL are currently recruiting for an Appointed Person – Lifting to work on a prestigious nuclear project in Dorset. The successful candidate will be joining a major engineering and technical services supplier to the nuclear industry, and it is a great opportunity to get involved with a major company on a significant project.

Responsibilities

You will have the responsibility for the co-ordination of all activities related to lifting works on site. This role encompasses the responsibility of the Appointed Person Lifting – you would be responsible for the planning, assessing and execution of all lifting operations for a given site.

There is a formally appointed “Appointed Person Lifting” for each of the client’s site that carries out lifting operations, including use of a Forklift Truck. 

The appointed person is responsible for:
  • Planning of all lifting operations for their designated site
  • Approval of all lifting related risk assessments and method statements on their site.
  • Final approval of all lift plans on their site.
  • Ensuring appropriate selection of crane(s) and lifting accessories for the given task.
  • Ensuring there is adequate supervision of all lifting operations across their site.
  • Ensuring that adequate pre-checks, inspections, maintenance, and thorough examination of the equipment has been carried out ensuring that all defects are reported in accordance with the Facilities Management Process.
  • Ensuring all incidents are reported and investigated in accordance with the Accidents, Near Misses & Positive Observation Reporting Process.
  • Ensuring all members of the lifting team are briefed on the contents, scope, and limits of the applicable risk assessment and lift plan.
  • Being familiar with the relevant parts of the project health and safety plan where the lifting
  • operation is being carried out on a site where the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations apply.
Requirements
  • Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) Qualification) - Desirable
  • Minimum NVQ Level 3 in relevant construction activities.
  • Minimum of CPCS Appointed Persons: Lifting Operations course or equivalent.
  • Ideally NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety – Desirable
  • Experience in leading complex lifts.
  • Sufficient knowledge and confidence to lead and to determine whether it is safe to carry out lifting operations.
  • A strong knowledge of Health & Safety principles.
  • Strong communication and influencing skills with a clear ability to build relationships and work collaboratively.
  • You will be required to undertake Security clearance and must be willing to obtain 3 years work history/references – Support through the process will be provided
