NRL are currently recruiting for an Assistant Commercial Manager to join one of our clients in the London area. This role will be supporting Utility projects in and around the London area for a major consultancy. This role is a great opportunity for those who are currently working in a commercial function or a technical function and are looking to develop and progress into a commercial position. Our client offers support to become RICS accredited whilst providing opportunities for learning, support and growth.

Responsibilities

The Assistant Commercial Managers will play a critical role in supporting the Commercial Manager on several key procurement and commercial areas. They will report to the Commercial Manager and establish and maintain working relationships with the wider client business and the client supply chain.

As the Assistant Commercial Manager you will support the Commercial Manager with the pre and post contract management of client’s supply chain. The Assistant Commercial Manager will be expected to support with some of the day-to-day commercial issues, as directed by the Commercial Manager.

The Assistant Commercial Manager will be expected to take on responsibility quickly and begin to support the establishment of some the smaller packages of work that will be prepared and issued to the supply chain, along with the post contract management activities using NEC3/4  (TSC, TSSC and ECSC) and bespoke forms of contract.

Key Accountabilities
  • Be an aligned member of the commercial team, representing the client’s behaviours and positive culture
  • Support in the preparation of scopes of work for the supply chain (work orders or similar) whilst ensuring that they are robust, complete and appropriate for execution (scope is sufficiently detailed, risks can be understood and assessed, timelines are clear etc)
  • Assist in monitoring budgets, change control, risks and contingency with the network build teams. Given time this will involve the periodic reporting and presentation of cost data and the accuracy and integrity of cost data.
  • Analyse data and provide information to the Commercial Manager to enable the explanation of variances to budget in commercial reports for contracts and suppliers
  • Carry out regular commercial reviews of both internal costs and external supplier costs and formulate measures to manage any issues and commercial exposure
  • Assist with final account settlements of all projects. This also includes supporting the management of any commercial disputes or claims, highlighting any needs for expert support if required
  • Supporting day to day commercial communications in accordance with the client’s commercial ways of working within CEMAR/Fast Draft experience beneficial not essential
  • Work with and use client systems and tools in undertaking the role of an Assistant Commercial Manager.
  • Supporting the cost, commercial and project reviews for contracts and suppliers, to inform cost and commercial reporting to include a position of incurred costs, forecast costs and the resultant position against defined company budgets and the levels of funding sanctioned
Requirements
  • Ideally you will have a minimum of 2+ years’ experience in commercial management OR a willingness to learn with post graduate experience in a technical discipline with a keen interest to progress into a Commercial Management function
  •  Experience through the early planning, development and tendering stages of infrastructure and utilities projects would be beneficial.
  • A hunger to get involved and at value at the front-end of infrastructure projects to support budgeting
  • Experience working in commercial teams in infrastructure and telecoms sectors OR experience working in a Project Management/Engineer position with an exposure or significant interest in Commercial functions.
