NRL’s client based in Grangemouth is looking to recruit an E&I Engineer on a permanent staff basis.

About the role:

  • As the IE Engineer, you will be required to develop and deliver agreed engineering Appraise/Select projects to meet HSE, schedule, cost and technical performance targets.
  • Responsible for evaluating improvement proposals against business demands and regulatory requirements and make recommendations on which to progress. Define and deliver engineering feasibility studies (Appraise/Select and other ad-hoc Studies) in line with business demands. Develop project scopes and specifications, which satisfy defined engineering standards and are justifiable expenditure. Prepare the end of Select project Statement of Requirements to hand over to the Projects Execution team for implementation.

**Key Responsibilities**

  • Manage an appraise/select portfolio which may comprise several concurrent projects on the site
  • Carry out Engineering studies to define options to improve the SHE, operational and commercial performance of the Refinery
  • Consult with the Asset and other key project stakeholders in order to ensure that the scope of the study and the requirements for each project are agreed
  • Undertake the Appraise study to evaluate the strategic fit of the opportunity with the business objectives and identify feasible options to achieve the business improvement
  • As necessary, consult with other refinery departments to generate commercial justification for project
  • Generate TOR for Select Study and commission relevant 3rd party to complete Select on behalf of the refinery (where necessary) to generate a Class III cost estimate for the project
  • Prepare the investment case which is submitted to the refining board for agreement in order to release the funds required for completion of the Select studies (where necessary)
  • Monitor select study costs, programme and quality and take corrective action as necessary to ensure select studies are carried out within agreed timescales and costs
  • To make a recommendation to the business based on the outcome of the Appraise/Select study to enable the right project to be selected ¿ the project that best meets the agreed business objectives and requirements. [This recommendation is made through the production of a Decision Support Paper (DSP) which, as part of the Capital Value Process (CVP), outlines and assesses the options investigated through the study and recommends the preferred option to be progressed through into define.]
  • Provide the Engineering technical input to the End-Select stage project Statements of Requirements or where appropriate, produce the end-select stage Project Statements of Requirements that will be used for the Define stage of the project
  • Provide input into the Define phase of the project to ensure the original design intent is met
  • Maintain the development list for their assigned area and facilitate the development list review meetings, where ideas for business improvements are prioritised for progression to Appraise stage projects

  • Manage limited uncertainty within project definition
  • Ability to manage key interfaces within Project (eg Infrastructure, regulatory)
  • Demonstrate ability to manage multiple studies.
  • Excellent decision-making skills within area of expertise in order to select the right project.
  • Capable of Economic Evaluation of Projects to generate NPV and IRR Analysis.
  • Coach and mentor interns or graduate engineers.
  • Deputise for Lead Development Engineer.
  • Capable of performing role of modifications authority.
  • Establish and sustain effective working relationships with project execution community and refinery personnel to ensure study objectives are met.

What you will need?

  • Degree qualified engineer with proven experience
  • Relevant experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Ability to use appropriate discipline engineering design methods for carrying out appraise and select studies.
  • Good understanding of the application of the site Plant Modification process and associated documentation management systems.
  • Understanding of the CVP process.
  • Project evaluation skills ¿ Financial Decision Making.
  • Understanding of process safety concepts and issues and can apply at a basic level
  • Team member experience of HAZOPs, PHSER¿s, investigation enquiries and SIL assessments
