NRL are recruiting for an award-winning design, engineering and construction company. Services to our clients range from new build construction, high-end office fit out, GMP cleanrooms, process services, laboratories and warehousing. Key to our success is listening to our client’s requirements and understanding every detail of the design and construction process. From concept through to commissioning, validation and handover, we use expert resources including in house estimating and design teams to consistently deliver high quality facilities. We also self-perform critical work packages including cleanroom installation and M&E services installation.

The business also operates a fabrication facility, based in Cramlington, Northumberland, which supports all the business streams providing prefabricated plant and pipework.

Role Information

As Electrical Building Services Design Engineer you will:

Manage, co-ordinate and provide specific project and engineering support.
Technically manage design output on projects to ensure it is delivered to a prescribed quality, specification and deadline
Be involved in setting budgets, estimates, quality requirements and programmes for design works
Support design in a number of areas including FEED, concept design, scheme design, detailed design, implantation, commissioning and handover.
Undertake value engineering exercise and query the consultants design where appropriate
Identify any risks of potential breaches of legislation or procedure, and advise management accordingly.
Be responsible for the submission of pre-qualifications and tenders
Be site based for periods of time

Purpose and Objectives

Provide the enthusiasm, specialist knowledge and energy to ensure that the company successfully fulfils its objectives and long-term strategy.  Your key objectives are to:

 

Manage the Engineering Design requirements for each tender or project, ensuring that they are fully delivered and meet all quality, cost and programme requirements.
Establish close working relationships with internal stakeholders as well as vendors, customers and third party design.

Duties and Responsibilities

Provision of advice to management (within your area of competence / specialisation) as relevant to all aspects of the company’s business.  This could include but not be limited to: HAZOP / HAZAN, BPM / BAT, CDM, Regulatory codes and standards applicable to area of competence and HSE.
Assisting in workload forecasting and manpower planning.
Assisting in performance review / mentor role.
Advising management on legislative compliance and best practice.
Assisting management in business development and winning projects.
Training – internal and external projects.
Liaising with the Quality Assurance Manager to ensure compliance and report accordingly.
Managing relevant personnel to enable production and regular updating of the contract programme.
Managing relevant personnel with regard to modelling and CAD requirements
Managing the Engineering Design functions on the project, including 3rd party design houses and integrated package equipment suppliers.
Facilitating all key documents, model and other layout, engineering reviews (CDM, Design Reviews, Design Workshops, constructability, commissionability and maintainability etc.
Producing and ensuring consistency of Engineering Design estimates.
Reviewing and controlling the technical content of the model and drawings produced and to check and approve drawings.
Liaising closely with the Project Manager and providing support and technical assistance as required.
Contributing to the preparation by others of estimates and programmes.
Monitoring / controlling the activities / performance of sub-contractors.
Preparing and issuing regular progress reports to Engineering Design and Project Management.
Maintaining CDM / H&S files and other legislative records.
Checking design consultant work and design calculations within individual capabilities or identifying and specifying such SQEP resource required.
Producing engineering working practices and quality plans as required.
Managing, monitoring and controlling engineering resource spend within or below allocated budget.
Raising purchase orders including the technical definition of work scope and/or technically review other purchase orders to liaise with suppliers and customers.
Assisting in the compilation of case history documentation.
Liaising with suppliers, clients and regulators.
Assisting in the compilation of case history documentation.

 

 

Personal Qualities and Experience

 

You will have an appropriate Engineering qualification (minimum HNC level or equivalent) and be experienced with 3 years plus experience in a similar role, ideally within the construction and engineering sector.

 

Experience:-

3 years plus, electrical design engineering
Sound understanding of engineering technologies
Building Services experience
Experience of designing systems such as distributions, containment, lighting, fire detection, data, access security and earthing.
Experience of working on and controlling multiple projects throughout their life span
Experience of working with all aspects of Microsoft Office

 

 

Proven Capability in the following areas:-

Competent in Amtech, Dialux/Relux and Auto Cad 2D
