NRL are currently recruiting for a Head of Discipline (Adjacent Transport Integration) to join a client of ours on a permanent basis, based in Milton Keynes.

 

Role Responsibilities:
  • Inform our client strategy and output requirements with expert technical advice & industry leading practice for Adjacent Transport Integration.
  • Derive the requirements Adjacent Transport Mode Integration/Interconnectivity to achieve our client strategy and deliver the target state.
  • Set our client strategy for Adjacent Transport Mode Integration/Interconnectivity, including standards and design principles to optimally achieve our client strategy and requirements in accordance with the Enterprise Approach.
  • Assure technical compliance for Adjacent Transport Mode Integration/Interconnectivity through appropriate risk-based assurance (V&V and technical approvals), audit and surveillance.
  • Provide support and “constructive tension” to Programme Engineering (Delivery) and support the sponsor in challenging Adjacent Transport Mode Integration/Interconnectivity requirements and standards to enhance whole life performance.
  • Lead safety management of Engineering people and assets for Adjacent Transport Mode Integration/Interconnectivity, managing technical interfaces and assuring integrated system safety and performance (supporting the System & Railway levels) across the delivery partner design authorities, including managing change to maintenance and configuration of operational assets for Adjacent Transport Mode Integration/Interconnectivity.
  • Support Engineering in establishing and maintaining the core Engineering processes and methods to enable delivery including the technical and system models required.
  • Actively manage and mitigate our client’s Adjacent Transport Mode Integration level technical risks, whilst assuring that technical risk is appropriately managed within delivery partners.
  • Lead and support Capital Delivery in implementing the strategy, processes and tools for Adjacent Transport Mode Integration/Interconnectivity.
  • Actively manage and accelerate innovation for Adjacent Transport Mode Integration/Interconnectivity to meet our client’s challenges, influencing the industry and informing our client on technical opportunities and risk.
  • Support the Head of Railway Management Systems and Integration to plan Adjacent Transport Mode Integration technical capability (skills and experience with demand levels) required to deliver our client’s programme throughout the whole life cycle of the railway. Support developing and maintaining the make or buy sourcing strategies for Adjacent Transport Mode Integration technical capability with commercial functions.
  • Set specific Adjacent Transport Mode Integration objectives, managing engineering priorities and work bank across the Adjacent Transport Mode Integration team to ensure effective delivery.
  • Implement effective KPI & Metrics, visualisation and reporting for the Adjacent Transport Mode Integration team performance, promoting a high-performance culture, including data quality monitoring and reporting.
  • Support Programme Engineering Managers in managing senior external technical delivery partners and industry stakeholder relationships for Adjacent Transport Mode Integration/Interconnectivity, ensuring requirements are agreed and any approvals gained.
  • Support our client’s External Relations team with any Adjacent Transport Mode Integration/Interconnectivity technical engagement with local authorities, other key local stakeholders, other government departments, NR and other operators.
 

Role Requirements:
  • Chartered or Incorporated engineer, or demonstrably equivalent professional experience and training (Fellow or working towards desirable)
  • Masters degree in a relevant field, or demonstrably equivalent professional experience and training
  • You will need to have the right to work in the UK

Your experience will include:
  • Broad experience of leading transport integration/engineering in a complex, safety focused and regulated organisation with multiple complex interfaces.
  • Extensive experience of transport integration/engineering life cycle including requirements, specification, design, build and maintenance.
  • Personal responsibility for successfully leading an integration/engineering discipline, exercising Technical Authority to assure the compliance and safety of delivered integration/engineering solutions.
  • People leadership of multi-disciplinary engineering teams.
  • Extensive experience of change management, rapidly adapting to emerging requirements, changing circumstances and high levels of uncertainty and ambiguity in a fast-changing environment.
  • Working within relevant UK industry legislation and standards.
