Job Specification
As Lifting Equipment Engineer you will be working within the Lifting and Hoisting department, part of the Mechanical / Office Engineering Department responsible for the provision and inspection of Cranes and Lifting Equipment required supporting the workshop and field maintenance activities of the Gas to Liquids (GTL) Complex.
In order to succeed in the role, you will be able to demonstrate a practical grounding and wide experience in lifting equipment specification, inspection, repair, and maintenance; supported by formal lifting industry qualifications.
TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee the contractor responsible for testing and inspection of overhead beams and gantries
- Monitor Maintenance Contractors compliance with Health Safety, Lifting and Rigging Procedure and Standards
- Use appropriate computer programs to monitor and arrange 3rd party inspections
- Monitor 3rd party lifting activities, witnessing the inspection performed by 3rd parties testing Overhead Cranes, Lifting Equipment and mobile platform equipment required to support the Area Maintenance Teams
- Self-motivated Efficient and active, ability to manage contractors and push work forward
- Coordinate and Supervise the Inspectors on site, monitoring the progress of their work
- Liaise with the Operations, Maintenance & SHE Departments with occasional interaction with external bodies. The LEE will have day to day contact with the site LEC, plus frequent interaction with LEC management.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS:
Equivalent to Incorporated Engineer status (UKASRG6 Category 2).
Good knowledge of LOLER, PUWER, and Machinery Regulations plus a detailed knowledge of LOLER regulations 9, 10 and 11.
Broad working knowledge of lifting equipment and accessories, including fixed and mobile cranes, forklift trucks, and mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPs).
Working knowledge of lifting industry standards i.e.BS 7121 (all parts), LEEA approved code of practice, HSE guidance notes and UKAS RG6
Ability to carry out necessary field work, including climbing ladders and working at height
Team player with a good understanding of Health and Safety relating to lifting equipment
Able to work with computers utilizing Microsoft Windows and Office suite of packages (Word and Excel)
Good communication skills in verbal and written English required
Experienced in lifting equipment inspection
DESIRABLE SKILLS:
Extensive experience within the Petrochemical or associated Industry is highly desirable
Preferable degree & qualified in Mechanical discipline or standards based qualification
Ability to perform structural calculations (Structural Engineer)
