Mechanical Fitter (Warships)

Our client at Devonport Royal Dockyard is looking for Mechanical Fitters to join the team that is at the forefront of supporting the Royal Navy fleet. This a contract position lasting initially until October 2022.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the serviceability of Warships and systems through detailed maintenance and refit periods by working with multi-trade teams.

  • Remove, overhaul, and install a variety of mechanical equipment which could include Hydraulics, weapons, water and fuel systems and LP/HP air, among other assets.

  • Working to engineering drawings and technical specifications

  • install and align new equipment and carry out system and equipment functional tests and surveys.

What you will need:

You’ll need to hold qualifications in at least one of the following:
• Indentured Apprenticeship
• Level 3 Modern Apprenticeship in a mechanical discipline
• Armed Forces PO/CPO/NCO with mechanical specialisation
• Level 3 Mechanical Engineering qualification

Experience

  • read engineering drawings to interpret work instructions

  • competent in the use of general workshop machinery

  • Ideally will have worked in the marine industry with experience of Royal Navy ships and submarines, Royal Fleet Auxiliary vessels or large commercial ships - although other relevant experience will be considered.
