NRLs’ client based in Grangemouth is looking to recruit a Process Engineer to join them on a permanent staff basis.

About the role:
  • The Process Engineer will work closely with the Operations team, Production Planning and other engineering disciplines, the Process Engineering Support Team provides the technical expertise to ensure that the refinery units are operated safely while maximising availability/efficiency and protecting environmental compliance. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing support to one (or more) of the refinery process units or to the Off Sites area (tank farm jetties, ocean terminal, rail/road station and local infrastructure) of the refinery.

Duties:

  • Establish and execute a process monitoring programme incorporating, but not limited to: operating envelope compliance, commercial performance (yield/throughput/variable costs), energy efficiency and corrosion & fouling rate/impact
  • Manage catalyst condition and performance where applicable. Lead appraisal, selection and execution of catalyst replacement activities.
  • Communicate findings from plant monitoring to relevant operations, engineering and leadership/management groups
  • Identify and appraise opportunities for commercial, operability and process safety improvements through changes to unit conditions, small-scale plant modifications or large-scale CAPEX projects.
  • Provide chemical engineering expertise in troubleshooting unit operating issues and vulnerabilities, making recommendations regarding changes in operating conditions or plant modifications in order to improve availability or commercial performance
  • Use, maintain and improve plant simulation models (e.g. HYSYS) to ensure suitability for plant troubleshooting and optimisation.
  • Own and manage process engineering information and documentation for designated units/systems.
  • Provide process engineering input into the planning of unit Turnarounds and participation within the TAR. Undertake process inspections and manage catalyst handling activities, in order to support the successful execution of the Turnaround.
  • Provide process engineering input and approval to all Plant Modifications to ensure that the process design of the Plant Modification is consistent with operation of the unit and consistent with the development strategy for the unit in terms of improved integrity or commercial performance

What you will need?

**Required:**

  • Chemical Engineering degree qualification
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and decision making skills
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work well in multidisciplinary teams and at all levels in the organisation including operations/maintenance personnel, engineers and management
  • Strong understanding of process safety concepts and relevant regulations

**Desirable:**

  • Team member experience of HAZOPs, investigation enquiries and SIL assessments
  • Process Engineering and operational knowledge of plants being supported
  • Experience in operations support and Turnarounds
  • Proficiency in use of plant simulation software (e.g. HYSYS, ProMax)
  • Proven experience, post-chartership, in refining/petrochemicals industry. Experience in other upper-tier COMAH process industries may also be considered
  • Chartered Engineer status (CEng) with relevant experience
