NRL is recruiting for a proactive and detail-driven Design Manager / Steelwork Engineer to join one of our key clients, supporting one of the most significant infrastructure developments in the UK’s energy sector.

What You’ll Be Doing:
As a Design Manager / Steelwork Engineer, you’ll take ownership of design delivery across your assigned scope, ensuring the timely production and management of all associated project deliverables. Working within a collaborative team environment, you’ll oversee design activities, manage risks, and engage with multiple stakeholders to ensure quality, cost, and programme objectives are met.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Lead the delivery and coordination of design outputs across designated project buildings.
- Oversee the compilation and review of key design materials, including input data, calculations, technical drawings, reports, and meeting documentation.
- Organise and document meetings, presentations, and design reviews to ensure clear communication and traceability of design changes.
- Manage the preparation and control of formal project documentation, such as Field Change Requests, Requests for Information (RFIs), and Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs).
- Proactively identify and mitigate risks affecting design delivery while maintaining effective engagement with stakeholders.
- Exercise sound engineering judgement to make timely, informed decisions that contribute to successful project outcomes.
- Report directly to the Deputy Delivery Lead, maintaining close collaboration with internal teams and external partners throughout all project phases.
What You’ll Need:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (Mechanical Engineering considered with suitable experience).
- Proven track record in structural steelwork design, adhering to national standards — ideally including Eurocodes.
- Experience working within complex, self-delivery project environments, managing multiple priorities effectively.
- Strong background in project planning, coordination, and execution, ensuring delivery to time and quality standards.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage confidently with stakeholders at all levels.
- Skilled in independent decision-making supported by solid analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Sound understanding of CDM 2015 Regulations and their application within engineering projects.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Navisworks, and relevant structural analysis tools (e.g., CEMAR).
