Keen to ensure as many local residents as possible had the opportunity to register their interest to work on Keadby 2, NRL's project team recently spent time discussing the site's labour pool at local job fairs.

Launching the recruitment drive

As the project team opened up applications for local workers who were interested in roles on the busy construction site, they hosted a special recruitment fair in Scunthorpe town centre in August 2019. Senior Project Manager Mike Fox from Siemens gave an update on how the project was progressing, and NRL’s project team chatted with almost 400 local residents to register their interest in joining the Keadby 2 labour pool across an afternoon and evening session.

SSE, Siemens and NRL are committed to engaging the local community to explore job opportunities on the construction site, so it was great to see such a good turnout on the day.

Helping to open doors

Shortly after the recruitment fair, NRL's team were also invited to exhibit at the North Lincolnshire Open Doors Jobs Fair - a local event organised by the regional council and Department for Works & Pensions.

The event, held in September 2019, provided attendees with advice on job seeking such as CV writing, mock interviews, childcare and social media. With several local companies hosting a stand to chat about opportunities to join their business.

NRL’s Keadby 2 project team were on hand to register applicants and discuss how the labour pool for the project will operate. With all contractors on-site required to engage supplementary labour through NRL’s labour pool, it provided a great chance to understand how to access future work requirements on the project.
