Spotlight on: Liverpool Bay CCS

We’re proud to be supporting the Liverpool Bay Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) project and are looking for talented civil engineering and pipeline specialists.

What is the Liverpool Bay CCS project?

The Liverpool Bay Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) project is one of the UK’s most advanced carbon capture and storage (CCS) systems. CO₂ emissions from heavy industries will be captured and transported via pipelines to secure storage sites beneath the seabed, helping to significantly reduce the region’s carbon footprint.

It’s the backbone of the region’s HyNet project and involves constructing approximately 35km of new pipeline and repurposing 24km of existing infrastructure. This network will connect major industrial infrastructure in the region with depleted gas reservoirs beneath Liverpool Bay, where the captured carbon will be permanently stored. The project marks a significant step towards regional decarbonisation and the UK’s net zero goals.

What is HyNet?

HyNet is one of the UK’s leading industrial decarbonisation clusters, which aims to unlock a low carbon future in the north west of England and north Wales by tackling carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions from industry and supporting economic growth in the region.
