Clerk of Works (Mechanical & Electrical)

On behalf of our client, NRL Recruitment are currently looking for a Clerk Of Works (Mechanical & Electrical) for work in the Islington area.

Location: Islington N7 8JA

Duration: 6 months with potential to extend to 12 months and beyond

Hours: Nights, Monday to Friday nights (out of hours), with occasional weekend working to support critical programme activities  –  8 hr shifts, varying times between 4pm and 8am.

 
Role Purpose:

The purpose of this role is to provide independent, technically focused oversight of contractor works across multiple sites. The post holder will ensure that all activities are delivered strictly in accordance with approved scope, drawings, specifications, statutory requirements, and agreed project plans.
 
Acting as a trusted client‑side representative, the role will uphold high technical and quality standards, challenge non‑compliant work, and provide clear, evidence‑based reporting to support effective governance and decision‑making.
 
The role will work closely with the Project Manager, supporting delivery by identifying risks early, resolving issues where possible, and maintaining accurate, timely site reporting.
 
 
Key Responsibilities:

• Provide independent assurance that works comply with approved drawings, specifications, statutory requirements, and project documentation.
• Monitor contractor performance against agreed programme milestones and highlight emerging risks or delays.
• Review construction sequencing and methodologies where these present safety, quality, or operational risks.
• Challenge non‑compliant works and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
• Produce clear, evidence‑based site reports to support governance, assurance, and informed decision‑making.
• Support the Project Manager by identifying issues early and contributing to effective risk management across sites.
