Geotechnical Designer / Site Representative – Padeswood, Flintshire, North Wales
We’re looking for an experienced
Geotechnical Designer / Site Representative to join a live construction project in Flintshire. This freelance role is ideal for an engineer who thrives on‑site and enjoys collaborating directly with construction teams to ensure geotechnical design integrity throughout earthworks and foundation works.
Location and Working Pattern- Padeswood, Flintshire, North Wales
- Immediate start with an expected duration of 8–12 months
- Site‑based position
Client Overview Our client is involved in a major construction project focused on earthworks and foundations. They are seeking a geotechnical professional who can act as a bridge between design and delivery, ensuring construction meets the approved standards and design intent.
Responsibilities- Act as the on‑site geotechnical design authority, supporting day‑to‑day construction work
- Provide immediate technical advice on ground conditions, earthworks, piling, and shallow foundations
- Ensure construction aligns with approved geotechnical design, specifications, and standards
- Review and respond to contractor RFIs, technical queries, and unforeseen ground conditions
- Support pile installation, trial piling, and pile testing; review records and results
- Undertake site inspections and confirm foundation and formation conditions
- Advise on design changes, mitigation measures, and geotechnical risks during delivery
Must‑have Requirements- Degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering (or Engineering Geology)
- At least 10 years’ experience providing site‑based geotechnical support
- Proven experience with earthworks, piles, and shallow foundations
- Knowledge of UK standards, including Eurocode 7 and BS 5930
- Chartered status is preferred
Nice‑to‑have Skills- Experience in piled retaining wall construction
- Confident and independent working style
- Strong communicator with design teams and contractors
- Practical, problem‑solving approach to engineering challenges
