Senior Planner 

The Senior Planner provides strategic leadership in the development, management, and control of complex construction project programmes. The role ensures effective sequencing, resource optimisation, and adherence to contractual and procedural requirements, while supporting successful project delivery through advanced planning techniques and professional judgement.
The Senior Planner also plays a key role in mentoring and developing less experienced planners, contributing to continuous improvement within the planning function.

Key Responsibilities Programme Development & Control
  • Develop, manage, and maintain complex construction programmes at tender and contract stages.
  • Identify planning scope, key constraints, contractual requirements, and factors impacting programme delivery.
  • Establish and manage programme baselines, critical paths, and change control processes.
  • Analyse programme performance and advise project teams on risks, impacts, and corrective actions.
Tender & Contract Planning
  • Lead the development of robust and optimised tender programmes, methodologies, and sequencing strategies.
  • Produce high-quality planning deliverables including programmes, planning narratives, presentations, and reports.
  • Maintain the Contract Programme in line with agreed procedures and project requirements.
Resource & Interface Management
  • Support effective planning of labour, plant, equipment, and materials to meet delivery objectives.
  • Manage planning interfaces with subcontractors, suppliers, clients, and wider project stakeholders.
Strategic Oversight & Mentorship
  • Provide strategic planning insight and leadership using advanced scheduling techniques.
  • Mentor, guide, and support planners and early‑career team members in a collaborative environment.
Data & Performance Management
  • Contribute to the production and analysis of programme data and key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Support data‑driven decision‑making and continuous improvement across project planning activities.

Skills, Knowledge & Experience (Summary)
  • Advanced expertise in construction planning and scheduling techniques.
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills.
  • Proficient in industry‑standard planning tools (e.g. Primavera P6, MS Project, ASTA, Excel).
  • In‑depth understanding of construction methodologies, contract programmes, and programme risk management (e.g. TRA, QSRA).
  • Proven experience delivering and leading planning across complex construction projects, including stakeholder engagement.
