Senior Quantity Surveyor


Summary
We’re seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join a leading engineering project team on a 12‑month contract based on-site in Padeswood. This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially focused professional with strong experience in cost management and contract administration within engineering or construction environments.


Salary £55.00 – £75.00 per hour PAYE


Location and Working Pattern
Padeswood – On-site, full-time contract position (12 months).


Client Overview
Our client is a well-established engineering organisation delivering large-scale projects across multiple sectors, including industrial and infrastructure developments.


Responsibilities
  • Lead pre‑contract activities, including tender preparation, evaluation, and contract negotiations.
  • Develop and maintain Bills of Quantities, Schedules of Rates, and detailed pay item descriptions.
  • Administer post‑contract processes, including monitoring performance, managing variations, and ensuring compliance with contractual terms.
  • Verify re-measurement of works, certify interim payments, and prepare final accounts.
  • Prepare accurate cost forecasts, manage budgets, and generate robust commercial reports.
  • Support claims avoidance, dispute resolution, and contractual risk management.
  • Mentor junior personnel and provide clear commercial advice to project teams.
  • Build strong stakeholder relationships and lead commercial meetings and negotiations.

Must‑have Requirements
  • Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Engineering, Law, or related field.
  • Minimum of 7+ years’ experience in quantity surveying or commercial management on large-scale construction, infrastructure, or energy projects.
  • Demonstrated capability in tendering, cost planning, contract administration, and claims management.
  • Expertise in measurement-based contracts including pay item descriptions, re‑measurement, and valuation processes.
  • Knowledge of NEC, FIDIC, JCT, IChemE, or equivalent forms of contract.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office and contract or cost management systems.
  • Strong negotiation, problem-solving, and stakeholder management capabilities.

Nice‑to‑have Skills
  • Professional chartership such as MRICS, RICS, CIOB, or equivalent.
  • Experience on EPC/EPCM or energy sector projects.
  • Familiarity with cost forecasting tools and earned value management.
