Rate: Up to £51.00 per hour

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Technical Author to join a Pre-Operations team supporting a major nuclear project in Cumbria. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to a high-profile programme by producing high-quality operational documentation that supports the safe and effective commissioning, operation, and maintenance of plant systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Produce compliant Operation, Maintenance (O&M) and Emergency Instructions within agreed project timescales.
• Develop and document risk assessment requirements to support working-level instructions.
• Review engineering, design, and vendor documentation to generate Volume C operational documentation.
• Conduct on-plant validation activities to verify the accuracy and usability of working instructions.
• Incorporate validation feedback and complete all post-validation updates and documentation revisions.
• Interface with engineering, design, operations, commissioning, and vendor teams to gather and verify technical information.
• Support plant walkdowns, inspections, and site familiarisation activities.
• Report progress and key deliverables to the Pre-Operations Manager.
• Provide regular progress updates and status reports.
• Attend project meetings, technical reviews, and stakeholder workshops.
• Promote a strong safety culture and commitment to Zero Harm principles.
• Ensure documentation is produced and maintained to the highest quality standards.
• Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary project teams.

Essential Requirements

• Previous experience working within the nuclear industry.
• Minimum HNC qualification in a relevant engineering discipline.
• Mechanical or Electrical/Instrumentation engineering background.
• Experience producing technical, operational, maintenance, or procedural documentation.
• Working knowledge of commissioning, operations, or maintenance processes within a regulated environment.
• IOSH Working Safely, Managing Safely, or equivalent health and safety qualification.
• Ability to obtain and maintain SC Security Clearance.
• Excellent attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality documentation.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a project team.

Desirable

• Experience developing O&M instructions and emergency operating procedures.
• Experience carrying out plant validation activities and site walkdowns.
• Familiarity with nuclear safety and quality assurance requirements.
• Knowledge of commissioning and pre-operational testing environments.
