Turbine and Generator Field Advisor
The NRL Group are currently looking for an experienced Turbine and Generator Field Advisor to deliver a significant work package on a major power generation construction project in the South West.
 
What will the role consist of?
  • Provide specialist technical guidance on the installation, alignment, assembly, and commissioning of turbine and generator systems.
  • Interpret and clarify OEM drawings, specifications, procedures, tolerances, and technical documentation for site teams.
  • Ensure turbine and generator system installation activities follow approved engineering designs, quality standards, and nuclear regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee and advise on mechanical installation activities including rotor placement, casing closure, bearing installation, coupling alignment, oil system flushing, and lube system commissioning.
  • Support electrical and instrumentation teams in generator assembly, excitation system installation, stator and rotor inspections, and electrical testing.
  • Participate in walkdowns, inspections, and readiness assessments for key milestones (e.g., first fire, overspeed testing, synchronization).
  • Monitor contractor workmanship and ensure adherence to OEM quality requirements, safety procedures, and nuclear site protocols.
  • Review and approve installation check sheets, quality records, test packages, and turnover documentation.
  • Identify any deviations or non-conformances, escalating issues and coordinating resolution with engineering and OEM teams.
  • Support the development and execution of commissioning plans, test procedures, and system verification activities.
  • Advise on turbine roll-up, operational readiness, vibration analysis, generator testing, and system performance assessments.
  • Provide technical direction during troubleshooting, defect rectification, and optimisation during commissioning and early operational phases.
  • Act as technical liaison between OEM engineering teams, construction contractors, commissioning teams, and project management.
  • Contribute to daily coordination meetings, providing technical status updates and identifying risks or constraints.
  • Ensure accurate communication of technical requirements, engineering changes, and safety-critical information.

What we’re looking for:
  • Prior experience working as a TFA or turbine engineering professional across major construction project(s)/ scope of works in the power generation industry.
  • Proven field experience in complex, high-integrity environments (e.g., nuclear, thermal power, petrochemical, or heavy industrial projects).
  • Degree qualified or equivalent experience in construction, engineering or other related discipline.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • General IT skills including good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
