NRL’s Sunderland Recruitment Team took part in the hair-raising Mad March Mare on 29th February – the North East’s muddiest obstacle course.

As part of a year-long fundraising partnership with Grace House, the team is aiming to raise £1k as they train to take part in the muddiest of races.

What is Mad March Mare?

Courage, teamwork, tenacity, endurance, willpower, co-operation and determination – these are just some of the words the people behind Mad March Mare use to describe what is needed to meet this challenge.

The 10k course contains 19 obstacles along the way, which have been designed with the support of Ex Royal Marines – so it’s not going to be easy or straight forward. Teams will need to work together to help each other up obstacles such as hay bales and tyre walls, and go through cargo nets and tunnels.

NRL and Grace House

The Sunderland Team were keen to work together to combine their paid charity leave and fundraising efforts to make a big difference. Having met with Grace House to hear all about the great work they do to support local families they have set themselves an ambitious target of raising £1k.

Grace House work with children and young people from across the North East, with complex disabilities and autism – to provide a fun, safe environment to bring them joy.

They organise overnight short breaks at their fully accessible centre in Southwick, Sunderland delivered in partnership with Sunderland Care and Support. Additional services include holistic therapies for parents, family counselling, support groups and family activity groups.
