Business Development Manager – Offshore Wind (UK & Ireland)

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support proactive sector and client strategy development

  • For targeted sectors, support the development of go-to-market strategies by geography and client, including screening of potential partners and technologies and building client relationship plans.

  • Engage with potential clients and technology companies to understand their development plans and identify potential areas for support and project opportunities.

  • Conduct market, client and opportunity specific analyses as required.

  • Attend conferences, webinars and events to improve market and opportunity understanding and summarise key learnings & insights for the wider team

  • Offshore Wind Projects Opportunity Identification and Development

  • Work with the wider BD team and directors and leveraging news sources and data sources to identify potential energy transition opportunities.

  • Proactively engage with clients to understand and develop opportunities, including responding to EoIs, RFPs, RFQs and PQs, in coordination with the Proposals team.

  • With a focus on offshore wind prospects in the UK and Ireland, lead development of opportunity win plans and manage opportunities through their maturation to the Screening gate

  • Work with the BDD and other team members, to mature opportunities to the Bid/No-bid gate, producing the BNB documentation and presentation.

  • Build relationships and engage across the wider internal stakeholder group, including Marketing, Proposals, Technical and operational resources to improve Petrofac’s offering and chances of success.

  • Support (and lead where required) the development of the proposal and delivery to the potential client. (including mid-proposal meetings, post submission presentations etc)

  • Ensure your prospects are correctly entered in the capture tracker and CRM records, to ensure these provide an accurate record of current status.

  • Ongoing customer relationship management

  • With a focus on offshore wind prospects in the UK and Ireland, build client account plans and track news flow related to these clients to enable proactive engagement

  • Lead or support meetings with clients and over time lead engagements with appropriate level clients as part of client engagement strategies

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • University degree qualification. Additional qualifications preferred, such as MBA

  • Prior exposure to client engagement, proposals, BD or market analysis

  • Project management qualifications (engineering or otherwise) will be beneficial.

  • Understanding of markets, competitive dynamics and customer dynamics in which Petrofac ETP operates (Renewables, Engineering, EPC contracting, O&M services, Training) will be beneficial.

  • Prior project management experience in operations or functions

  • Prior experience in proposals/BD

  • Working understanding of renewable technologies

  • Deep knowledge of the UK and European Offshore wind markets, clients, permits, and supply chain.

  • Strong organisational and project management skills, planning and time management. Ability to deliver against tight deadlines and work with a potentially diverse and dispersed team to deliver outputs to the necessary quality standards and schedule. Attention to detail is critical to succeed in this role.

  • A structured and inclusive approach to problem solving: The ability to balance analysis, intuition and experience in analysis and outlining of decision options particularly when dealing with large uncertainties.

  • Ability to self-manage / autonomous prioritization –ETP requires rapid response to changes in plan driven by internal and external factors. The BDM should be able to ‘read’ the situation and respond rapidly to the changes which require ability to judge the situation and self-manage the priorities, both for themselves but also for the wider team delivering the transformation.

  • Familiarity with governance processes – Knowledge and understanding of Project management governance, principles and processes

  • Ability to work with diverse and geographically remote teams – Petrofac is a diverse workplace and the BDM should be able to deliver the ETP agenda while working within this environment.

  • Commercially inquisitive and tenacious in getting to answers – able to turn sometimes unstructured input into a business case and work with an initiative owner to develop and improve this. Meanwhile, this person needs to be structured and tenacious in obtaining updates on projects and opportunities.

  • Fluent with Microsoft Office especially Excel and PowerPoint & MS Project

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality: in all aspects of work and handle sensitive information.

  • Personable and team oriented: able to quickly build relationships across the Group and with external third parties and develop junior or less experienced resources (e.g. Graduates)

  • Self-starter and can-do attitude: Ability to plan and demonstrate progress with little supervision and against potential challenges, proven ability to work under pressure.
