Construction Manager – Berkeley, Gloucestershire.

Our client, a leader in the Nuclear and Defence industry, are now looking for a Construction Manager to support with their site based in Berkeley, Gloucestershire.

About the role:

The project will provide the facilities for retrieval and packaging of legacy waste, such that it is suitable for subsequent long-term storage. Our client will hold Principal Designer and Principal Contractor responsibilities, as defined within the Construction Design and Management (CDM) Regulations 2015. Site mobilisation is scheduled to commence early 2025; and the project is scheduled for completion in late 2028. The successful candidate will act as the focal point during the construction planning phase. The candidate will be responsible for ensuring that arrangements are compliant with the client’s Business Management System (BMS) and the relevant Health and Safety legislation.

Duties will include but are not limited to:

  • You will ensure Principal Contractor duties are fulfilled.

  • Ensure hazards are appropriately identified and managed.

  • Be responsible for production of the Construction Phase Plan

  • Communicate with Client, the Principal Designer and subcontractors

  • You will support the Construction Project Manager in management of the construction site, including supervising the labour force, monitoring subcontractors, checking materials, inspecting work and overseeing quality control.

  • Deputising for the Construction Project Manager as required.

  • Ensure compliance with the procedural controls, as detailed in the Business Management System (BMS)

  • Plan the work on a day-to-day basis, in line with the project programme.

  • Ensure the overall construction scope is delivered on time and to budget.

  • Promote and maintain health and safety, including site inspections to ensure safety rules are being followed.

  • Report Writing

  • Ensure Safe System of Work documentation is approved and appropriate for the work being carried out.

  • Maintain regular communication and attend meetings with clients and their representatives to inform them of progress on the project.

  • Communicate with consultants, subcontractors, supervisors, planners, quantity surveyors and others involved in the project.

  • Resolve any unexpected problems that may occur during the project.


What you will need:

Ideally you will have skills and experience covering the below:

  • Detailed knowledge of Health and Safety legislation relevant to the management of construction site – particularly CDM 2015 Regulation

  • Experience of EPC Project delivery in a highly regulated environment – preferably Nuclear

  • Line management capability.

  • Production and review of Safe Systems of Work documentation

  • Document writing.

  • Safety management e.g. NEBOSH, IOSH

  • CDM

  • Radiological Protection

  • Ability to obtain SC clearance.
