NRL are currently recruiting for a permanent Design Engineer to work for a specialist company based in Hartlepool.

Responsible to:          
Senior Design Engineer

Role Purpose:

The design department provides detailed Engineering Design and Technical support associated with Umbilical/Cable design and termination hardware solutions to meet the customer requirements in the Oil and Gas and Renewable Energy markets commensurate with relevant national and international standards. Working day-to-day for the Senior Engineer and collaboratively with the Design Engineers, Graduate Engineers and Design Technicians the Design Engineer will be responsible for supporting the design teams as directed by the Senior Design Engineer or Lead Engineer.


Main responsibilities of the role:

  • Provide detailed design engineering for new projects, liaise with other departments to ensure understanding of all customer/project requirements and to support the Proposals, Purchasing, Project Management, Quality and Production teams.
  • Produce detailed technical documentation including specifications and drawings for internal and subcontract manufacture, ensuring full compliance, during all engineering and related activities with regard to sound engineering practice and adherence to relevant internal and external procedures, guidelines and standards.
  • Produce economic engineered solutions, considering all aspects from materials to manufacturability and quality, whilst satisfying all customer and internal requirements. Liaising with suppliers on technical and engineering matters, ensuring knowledge of industry developments are kept up to date.
  • Actively pursue the development of new products from conceptual design through manufacture, guaranteeing the development and continuous improvement of existing products and services.
  • Formulate good working relationships with customers and suppliers, communicating with the Senior Design Engineer frequently and keep them fully informed at all times. Taking ownership of meeting internal and external deadlines.
  • Operate CAD package and design software, maintaining files and working environment in an orderly and safe fashion conforming to procedures.
  • Complete internal and external Non Conformance and Concession/ Deviation Reports.  
In addition to the above responsibilities, the role holder is required to undertake such duties and responsibilities as may reasonably be required from time to time. To comply with all Health and Safety, Quality and Environmental standards and procedures established by the company’s policies and in accordance with the requirements of relevant legislation and any regulatory bodies at all times.

Who are we looking for?

Essential Skills & Experience

The position requires an engineering background or specific knowledge.

  • Organised, accurate and be self-motivated with an eye for detail.
  • Good time-management skills and able to prioritise his/her work to ensure all the Design Engineering Team requirements are met on time.
  • Holders of the role will need to demonstrate familiarity with the challenges of working on multiple projects and managing tasks effectively.
  • Able to work as part of a team and can communicate effectively at all levels.
  • Mechanical and/or Electrical Engineering theory
  • Technical report writing
  • Experienced with AutoCad software packages, specifically AutoDesk Inventor and Vault as well as Microsoft word and excel packages.
  • Able to adapt to bespoke / non-standard software packages with minimal training
  • Experienced in Reviewing client documentation
  • Experience working in a process orientated environment.
  • Demonstrated clear evidence of technical competence, responsibility and professional conduct.

Qualifications
  • Degree in an Engineering subject, or relevant experience gained in an engineering field.
