Foreman Welder – Hinckley. Starting Salary £40k+ per annum

Our client, a leader in the Energy from Waste industry, are now looking for a Foreman Welder to support with their Service Office based in Hinckley, but in practice will be travelling up and down the UK to support short-term outages on EfW power stations.


About the role:

  • You will demonstrate leadership and commitment to HSEQ. Actively encourage and leads the Client and Contractor teams to implement and comply with project HSEQ requirements

  • Ensure that all relevant HSEQ requirements are incorporated into area of responsibility and that, in consultation with site supervisor and HSE team, HSE hazards are eliminated or mitigated to the extent practicable

  • Ensure that risk assessments and method statements (RAMS) are reviewed with regards to HSE requirements and that work is carried out in accordance with the RAMS

  • Be responsible for the safety and HSE performance of all personnel under their control, and for stopping work where this might be compromised

  • Work with customer and site supervisor in producing work schedules and plans, then implement service delivery performing necessary testing in accordance with written appropriate test procedures

  • Implement standardized methods in order to identify complex problems

  • Read and interpret blueprints with detailed drawings and dimension styles.

  • Prepare weld surfaces as required.

  • Sets up, positions and operates hand and power tools such as shielded metal arc and gas metal arc welding equipment.

  • Determine welder settings required on project.

  • Verify final weld penetration and aesthetics.

  • Weld prep and fit-up of steel parts.

  • Weld according to all appropriate codes and procedures.

  • Use basic math skills to calculate and convert decimals and fractions as needed.

  • Monitor quality of weld using appropriate tools and measuring devices.

  • Checks welding process to avoid overheating of parts or warping, shrinking, distortion or expansion of material.

  • Perform grinding, gouging, chipping operating a grinder, cutting torch, etc.

  • Operate forklift, as needed, according to safe operating procedures.

  • Perform all functions safely and follows all safety standards and procedures.

  • Understand and promote the ISO 9001/2015 culture ensuring that every function and operation happens with high quality.

  • Adhere to all company policies.

  • Prepare and work with Site supervisor and Service manager to follow-up deviations and claims

  • Deliver Lessons Learned and feedback for current and future projects

  • Keep the Site Supervisor informed of all site related activities


What you will need:

Ideally you will have skills and experience covering the below:

  • City & Guilds Level 3 Engineering

  • SMSTS Certificate

  • Experienced as chargehand in delivering Boiler Pressure Parts services to a large industrial plant

  • Experienced in the co-ordination of contractors on site

  • Experienced as a leader of HSEQ and has knowledge of relevant HSEQ legal and management system requirements

  • Knowledge of relevant international and national technical standards

  • Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS), valid Safety Contractors Certificate or equivalent

  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft suite applications


Specific knowledge required for role:

  • Pressure Parts: Simple Pressure Vessel Directive 2009/105/EC, 2014/29/EC; and Pressure Equipment Directive 97/23/EC, 2014/68/EC

  • Machinery: Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC; ATEX 95 Equipment Directive 94/9EC, 2014/34/EC; and ATEX 137 Workplace Directive 1999/92/EC (to the extent applicable)
