Process Engineer Lead – Job description


Skills and Responsibilities: 

  • Responsible for managing all process engineering activities related to the project. This includes overseeing process design, optimization, and troubleshooting to ensure alignment with project specifications, quality standards, and efficiency goals.

  • Develops primary goals, operating plans, policies, and short and long-term objectives

  • Implements the above items following approval from the Project Delivery Manager, Head of Engineering, or Engineering Manager, as applicable.

  • Maintains the technical competence of the discipline and quality of delivery on projects

  • Allocates appropriate manpower for their respective department

  • May undertake role of a lead engineer or study manager on a small project in addition to program departmental responsibilities. Acts as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Process Engineering issues that may arise.

  • Continuously evaluates manpower and competency requirements; ensures RESOURCE TOOL is kept up to date; develops manpower plans, charts and schedules.  Recommends, assigns and allocates manpower for the execution of engineering activities within the budgeted project man-hours.  Recommends cost effective measures to reduce overall manpower costs.  Evaluate current manpower skill levels and allocate work among engineering staff according to complexity, specialised training and project requirements.

  • Recommends recruitment requirements in support of program engineering activities; participates in screening of applicants, interviewing, selection and onboarding of candidates in accordance with procedures and approval processes.

  • Determines training and development requirements within the department; confers with supervisory level personnel in the identification of skill gaps and training needs. 

  • Analyses technology trends, recommends upgrade of systems and procedures when required.  Assesses, identifies and develops technical tools, conducts presentations and seminars to update and improve the quality of engineering deliverables.

  • Interfaces and regularly meets with client and vendor representatives, heads internal staff and kick-off meetings, ensure the progress of project completion in accordance to determined schedules, allotted man hours and budgeted costs.  Coordinates with projects and planning departments on schedule related issues.

  • Consults with quality assurance on any issues relating to compliance with QA/QC standards, project quality plan and design integrity processes and procedures.  Coordinate internal and client audit requests.

  • Evaluates and assesses department material resources, codes and standards and software requirements.

  • Holds discipline meetings as required and maintains program communication with department members.

  • Provide program technical leadership in support of project activities and approve critical deliverables as required.

  • Addresses personnel management issues in conjunction with project and HR functions, undertakes appraisal, and is responsible for reviewing training and development needs.

  • Participates in preparation of proposals including execution statements, man-hour cost estimates and client clarifications.

  • Manages the overall engineering activities of the department, accountable for overall discipline related activities for the successful completion of proposals and/or projects within allotted schedule, quality, man-hour and costs.  Accountable for the entire program’s department budget.

  • Document all process engineering activities and maintain comprehensive records. Regularly report on progress, issues, and suggestions to the Project Delivery Manager, Head of Engineering, or Engineering Manager and other stakeholders, as appropriate.

In addition to the responsibilities listed herein, the employee may be required to perform other ad-hoc tasks as needed or directed by the supervisor or management. These tasks will be within the reasonable scope of the employee's skills, capabilities, and role within the organization.

Knowledge/ Qualification/ Training/ Certification:

  • A degree qualification in Chemical / Process Engineering

Communication:

Coordinates with projects and planning departments on schedule related issues.
