NRL are currently recruiting for a permanent Senior Design Engineer to work for a specialist company based in Hartlepool

Role Purpose:

The Senior Design Engineer will specialise in Power Cables,they  will be responsible for supporting the Project Engineering teams with specific technical knowledge of subsea power cables (including MV and HV power cores and fibre optic cables as the main functional components). 
As this is a specialist role appropriate company specific training will be provided to the successful candidate.


Main responsibilities of the role:

  • Line Management of design team sub group, setting work/deadlines and performance development.
  • Create detailed power cable designs for projects, producing economic engineered solutions considering all aspects from materials to manufacturability, whilst satisfying all customer and internal requirements taking responsibility for generating technical documentation (reports, technical notes, purchase specifications, calculations and drawings), completing client datasheets, reviewing and responding to client clarifications and checking documentation produced by others. 
  • Ensure full compliance in all activities with regard to sound engineering practice and adherence to relevant internal and external procedures, guidelines and standards.
  • Review supplier technical documentation received in response to RFQ’s and purchase specifications to confirm compliance with client requirements, internal requirements and international standards, liaising with suppliers where necessary to resolve technical issues to support the project engineering team.
  • Attend client meetings as required to provide power cable related technical support.
  • Take a proactive role in the handover of new projects from Tendering to the wider business.
  • Assist in the maintenance of standard document templates to ensure that all content changes are captured for future tenders / projects.
  • Provide feedback to the Technology team where maintenance / updates to internal design manuals is required to ensure continuous improvement of existing product range.
  • Provide support to the project based Design Engineers for power core and power cable related queries and take on the role of technical specialist.
  • Provide technical support for power cable related manufacture and test issues as required including review of complex DCR’s and NCR’s.
  • Support and develop the wider design team to improve cross functionality of skills.
  • Ensure knowledge of industry developments is kept up to date.
In addition to the above responsibilities, the role holder is required to undertake such duties and responsibilities as may reasonably be required from time to time.

Who are we looking for?

Essential Skills & Experience
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines under pressure and to prioritise workload whilst maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Mechanical and Electrical Engineering theory experience as well as technical report writing and checking and reviewing client/supplier documentation.
  • Minimum degree qualified in an engineering subject or relevant experience gained in an engineering field.
  • Good administrative skills with advanced use of Microsoft Excel and Word and a good standard of written English.
  • Experience of AutoCAD and Autodesk Vault.
  • Able to adapt to bespoke / non-standard software packages with minimal training.
  • Able to demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and experience to provide credibility to customers and other stakeholders.

Desirable

  • Experience in engineering, design and delivery of subsea cable projects, including evidence of significant level of technical competence, delivery achievement and professional conduct.
  • Proven success in a similar role.
  • Recognised or working towards recognition by appropriate professional body.
