The opportunity
Our client is looking for a Buyer to support purchasing activity for its vessel operations from the Westhill facility. You will help teams source the goods and services vessels need, working with requestors, internal departments and suppliers across a global operating environment. The role suits someone with practical buying or procurement experience who is organised, service minded and comfortable balancing priorities.
What you will do
Support sourcing and purchasing for vessels, seeking cost-effective solutions and suitable alternatives where appropriate.
Review requisitions, specifications and requests for quotation to check completeness and compliance with company procedures and governance.
Keep requestors informed about requisition progress, delivery status and any issues that need attention.
Use approved suppliers and relevant purchasing agreements, consolidating orders where practical to reduce avoidable transactions.
Review and negotiate supplier quotations to secure appropriate commercial outcomes, quality and delivery.
Progress open requisitions, manage your workload and meet agreed deadlines while keeping stakeholders updated.
Help resolve purchasing and delivery queries, including invoice discrepancies, short deliveries and other supply issues.
Work closely with Purchasing, Project Management, Logistics, Contracts, Vessel and Spool Base Operations, Finance and Expediting teams.
Follow applicable quality, health, safety, environmental and security requirements, and help colleagues understand the Purchasing function.
What you will bring
You will bring practical experience in buying, procurement or a related supply-chain role. We are open to relevant experience from different industries; direct oil and gas or vessel-buying experience is useful, but not essential.
Clear written and verbal communication, with a collaborative and customer-focused approach.
The ability to review purchasing requests carefully, organise competing priorities and follow through on deadlines.
Confidence working with suppliers and discussing quotations or commercial options.
Experience using an ERP or purchasing system. Familiarity with Oracle, marine spares, OEMs or global supply chains is helpful, but not required.
Adaptability, initiative and a willingness to learn in a busy, changing environment.
A degree, CIPS qualification or previous oil and gas experience is not specified as a requirement for this opportunity. We welcome applications from people whose transferable procurement experience matches the work.
Working arrangement
This is an office-based role at the Westhill facility in Aberdeenshire, with a typical hybrid pattern of four office days and the option to work from home on Friday. The working week is 37.5 hours across five days; normal hours are approximately 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with some flexibility by agreement. Overtime is not normally expected, though occasional business-critical needs may arise. Vessel visits are infrequent and depend on operational schedules; any required personal protective equipment will be provided.
Our working environment
You will join a purchasing team supporting vessels that operate in different locations and time zones. Teamwork, reliable service, safety, integrity, quality and respect guide how we work.
