EHS Specialist based in
Rotterdam, you’ll be part of a team responsible for delivering on-site environmental, health, and safety (EHS) management for a major capital project. This role is ideal for someone with a proven background in construction EHS supervision who thrives on driving safety performance, risk management, and compliance throughout all phases of a project.
Location and Working Pattern Rotterdam, Netherlands – on-site during construction and commissioning phases, with flexibility required for occasional evening, night, or weekend work.
Client Overview Our client is a global industrial services and engineering organisation delivering large-scale projects across the petrochemical and energy sectors. NRL is supporting their search for an experienced EHS Specialist to lead and develop project-level safety standards.
Responsibilities- Provide EHS leadership and guidance to support the project site team in achieving objectives.
- Implement, maintain, and monitor site EHS plans in line with the company’s EHS Management System.
- Conduct risk assessments, incident investigations, and root cause analyses.
- Work closely with contractors and project managers to establish and implement compliant safety plans.
- Advise on emergency preparedness and risk management measures.
- Deliver training and ensure project personnel adhere to EHS policies and procedures.
- Contribute to performance reporting, action tracking, and management of incidents and illnesses.
- Liaise with relevant regulatory authorities and external agencies as required.
Must‑have Requirements- Proven EHS supervision background with extensive experience in project construction support.
- Knowledge of EHS management systems and processes within the gases or petro(chemical) industries.
- Relevant EHS qualification and demonstrated experience in major capital projects.
- Strong knowledge of incident investigation, root cause analysis, and EHS legislation (OSHA, Dutch regulations, EPA, DOT, Drug & Alcohol standards).
- Ability to read P&IDs, single line drawings, and apply LOTO and PTW systems.
- Fluency in Dutch (written and spoken) with strong English communication preferred.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.
Nice‑to‑have Skills- Experience supporting simultaneous operations (SIMOPS).
- Familiarity with leading safety culture initiatives and developing best practice processes.
- Previous exposure to managing EHS compliance during commissioning phases.
