We’re recruiting a skilled General Foreman to join a major £13m highways improvement project along the A4 in Bristol, delivered in partnership with Bristol City Council. Covering a seven-mile section between Avonmouth and Hotwells, this technically challenging project involves complex junction improvements, drainage upgrades, and carriageway resurfacing. Our client is a leading Tier 1 infrastructure contractor with extensive experience delivering major civil engineering and highways projects across the UK. Responsibilities

• Lead site operations across assigned sections of the project, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality delivery.
• Coordinate subcontractors, plant, materials, and labour to meet programme and cost targets.
• Promote a strong safety culture, ensuring full compliance with HSE legislation and site procedures.
• Implement short-term construction programmes aligned to the master plan.
• Drive performance, productivity and progress reporting against key milestones.
• Conduct inspections to maintain strict quality standards.
• Proactively identify risks, challenges and opportunities for improvement.
• Support engineers in resolving technical issues and delivering value engineering solutions.

Must-have Requirements

• Proven experience in civil engineering or major highways projects, ideally with a Tier 1 contractor.
• Demonstrated ability to manage works in traffic-intensive urban environments.
• Strong knowledge of health, safety, and environmental standards.
• Excellent team leadership and communication skills.
• Ability to coordinate multiple trades and manage daily site logistics.

Nice-to-have Skills

• SMSTS or equivalent site management qualification.
• Experience in drainage, road resurfacing or junction upgrades.
• Familiarity with public-sector infrastructure projects.
