Lead Estimator - Piping and Structural

Join a leading fabrication team in Grimsby as a Lead Estimator overseeing structural steelwork and pipework projects. This role is ideal for an experienced estimator with strong leadership, technical estimating capability and commercial acumen, seeking to drive high‑quality bid submissions and support project success.


Location and Working Pattern
Grimsby – on-site role.


Responsibilities

• Lead the estimating department, assigning and prioritising bid packages and reporting progress to management.
• Mentor and support team members to ensure accuracy and consistency in all estimates.
• Review tender documentation to identify commercial risks, exclusions and opportunities.
• Support pricing strategy, bid adjudication and prepare proposal documentation.
• Ensure estimates align with operational capability, execution approach and commercial goals.
• Prepare and issue RFQ packages to subcontractors, defining scope and required specifications.
• Develop detailed cost estimates covering labour, materials, rentals, subcontracts and indirect costs.
• Coordinate estimate reviews with senior management and ensure timely bid submissions.

Must‑have Requirements

• Proven experience leading or mentoring estimating personnel in fabrication environments.
• Strong commercial understanding of both shop fabrication and site installation.
• Ability to interpret isometrics, GA drawings and specifications into accurate cost estimates.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Word.
• Sound knowledge of plating fabrication activities as a primary discipline.
• Working knowledge of piping estimating principles as a secondary skill set.
• Detail‑oriented, self‑motivated and capable of managing multiple bids.

Nice‑to‑have Skills

• Experience using computerised estimating systems.
• Understanding of project execution planning and critical path scheduling.
• Background in mechanical and structural engineering, including piping.
