Traffic Signal Engineer
Location: Matlock (Derbyshire County Council Office) – minimum 1 day per week on site, preferably 2.
Contract: 3‑month rolling contract (likely extension)
Working Pattern: Hybrid – remainder of the week working from home; occasional visits to offices in Birmingham/Manchester or DCC sites.
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Traffic Signal Engineer to lead Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) delivery for our client. The successful candidate will work directly with the client and collaborate closely with the wider ITS team to identify opportunities, manage workload, and deliver high‑quality ITS and traffic signal designs.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead ITS design delivery on behalf of the client and act as the main point of contact for the Client Design Manager.
  • Coordinate closely with the Client Design Manager to plan, manage, and deliver the forward workload.
  • Collaborate with the wider ITS team to source and integrate additional technical resources as needed.
  • Undertake and lead ITS and traffic signal design work, including reporting on progress, risks, and delivery status.
  • Conduct and/or review Third Party Checks, including S38 and S278 works.
  • Oversee Factory / Configuration Acceptance Testing to ensure systems meet design and operational requirements.
  • Undertake Site Acceptance Testing, validating onsite performance and compliance.
  • Complete MOVA Validation, ensuring optimal traffic signal performance.
Experience & Skills Required
  • Proven experience as a Traffic Signal Engineer within ITS or related fields.
  • Strong understanding of ITS design principles and delivery processes.
  • Experience with traffic signal design, validation, and acceptance testing (FAT, SAT, MOVA).
  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Strong organisational and workload management skills.
