NRL are proud to be working with a leading business in their field within the O&G, Petrochemical sector who operate on COMAH sites throughout the UK.

Our client is looking for a SHE Supervisor to join the team at our based in Essex to provide a highly visible Safety, Health and Environmental presence on their site. 


You will...

  • Assist with the development of a positive Health & Safety culture across the terminal and to increase the awareness and understanding of Safety Health and the Environment.

  • Ensure the Terminal is operating in accordance with environmental guidelines and targets.

  • Create, implement, and monitor environmental strategies to promote sustainable development.

  • Ensure that the terminal discharges its obligations under health, safety and environmental Legislation, corporate standards and the UK Health, Safety and Environmental policy.

  • Competent, safe, and accurate completion of all allocated tasks is required to maintain the quality performance of the Company.

  • To support the Terminal, SHE Manager and SHE Coordinator in their duties as applicable.

  • To monitor process safety performance and advise the terminal on requirements with regard to the prevention of major accidents and the safe movement of hazardous products.

Responsibilities:

Below are some of the key responsibilities that the successful candidates will be required to undertake as part of the role:

  • Ensure that visitors, employees, contractors and third parties entering or working on the terminals adhere to the terminals procedures and operate in line with the UK safety and environmental management and security systems.

  • Assist with the development, implementation and integration of the Safety, Health, and Environmental management systems.

  • Provide assistance to the SHE Team in developing and implementing Safety Management Systems.

  • Support the SHE Team in leading the terminal safety effort and liaising with staff in non-operational disciplines to ensure that all agreed procedures are implemented.

  • Take part in and when required lead safety inspections, audit, risk assessments, security audits process observation and safety observation rounds. Once completed the relevant records must be entered onto the electronic reporting system.

  • Assist with the completion of non-conformances ensuring that all corrective /preventative actions are identified and implemented.

  • Undertake incident and accident investigation ensuring root causes are identified and preventive / corrective actions are implemented.

  • Encourage and review near miss reporting.

  • Complete permit to work checks across the terminal to ensure all persons working on the terminal are working in a safe manner.

  • Participate in the daily permit to work meeting when required.

  • Compile and share SHE KPI’s and monthly reports ensuring trends that may impact on the Terminals performance are identified and actioned.

  • Attend and participate in the UK SHEQ Meetings.

  • Facilitate and participate in terminal SHE Meetings.

  • Complete safety related toolbox talks to employees and contractor as required.

  • Assist the terminal in ensuring all required risk assessments for site activities are completed (Risk Assessments, COSHH Assessments, PPE/RPE Assessments, DSE Assessments, Manual Handling Assessments, Fire Risk Assessments, PEAR /TEAR Assessments etc.)

  • Plan, organise and control the safety and servicing of all onsite fire equipment and other safety equipment including Personal Protective Equipment, first aid boxes etc.

  • Participate in the terminals MOC, Project Reviews and HAZOPs as the terminal SHE representative as required.

  • Identify and implement SHE projects as applicable.

  • Facilitation and participation in internal and external emergency exercises.

  • Support the SHE Manager in liaising with HSE, Environment Agency, Emergency Planning Unit and Local Authority.

  • Travel to other sites as required and attend off site meetings as applicable.

  • Deputise for the SHE Manager and SHE Coordinator in their duties as applicable.

  • Partake in training as required to ensure that the required level of competency is maintained.

  • Any other tasks that may arise in the day-to-day functionality of this position.


Experience Required:

  • NEBOSH General Certificate

  • Membership of Institute of Occupational Safety & Health

  • Active involvement in IOSH Continued Personnel Development Programme.

  • NVQ Level 3 Management – desirable

  • Understanding of Environmental Legislation
