We’re looking for an experienced Conventional Safety and CDM Advisor to join our client on a 12-month contract. Based at Birchwood, the role involves supporting design projects to ensure safety is embedded throughout – from concept to build. This is an ideal opportunity for someone with strong health and safety experience in regulated industries who wants to make a real impact on project safety culture.

Client Overview
Our client operates within the nuclear sector, delivering complex engineering projects with a strong focus on safety and compliance.

Responsibilities
  • Lead conventional health and safety across design projects.
  • Provide expert advice on health, safety and CDM throughout all design phases.
  • Chair and facilitate hazard studies (e.g., HAZCON and SHERA).
  • Support assurance reviews and input into constructability and design reviews.
  • Develop and maintain conventional safety strategies and reports.
  • Assist the Principal Designer to meet CDM regulatory duties.
  • Manage residual risk communication and maintain risk registers.
  • Guide the completion of Health and Safety Files for projects.
  • Act as the subject matter expert for regulator engagement.
  • Review and enhance design safety procedures and guidelines.
  • Provide coaching on health and safety in design to internal teams.
Must-have Requirements
  • NEBOSH Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health (or equivalent).
  • Chartered IOSH membership (or working towards this).
  • Significant experience in conventional safety and/or CDM roles within a design environment.
  • Background in the nuclear or similar high-risk industry.
Nice-to-have Skills
  • Knowledge of assurance processes and regulatory liaison.
  • Stakeholder management experience in complex engineering projects.
