The HR Manager leads, develops, and motivates the HR, Payroll, Talent Acquisition, and Training teams. The role is responsible for creating and delivering the HR and Training strategy to ensure the business attracts, develops, and retains high‑quality talent.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and advise on effective employment policies and HR best practices.
  • Lead, support, and develop the HR team to ensure high professional standards.
  • Support business needs through effective staff development, engagement, and retention initiatives.
  • Oversee HR strategies, systems, procedures, and performance management processes.
  • Foster a positive workplace culture and act as the main contact for employee relations and union interactions.
  • Lead HR functions including recruitment, employee relations, engagement, workforce administration, payroll, reward, and HR systems.
  • Drive continuous improvement in HR processes, engagement, welfare, and leadership capability.
  • Champion organisational culture, values, and diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.
  • Coach senior and high‑potential employees to support development and retention.
  • Ensure managers are equipped with appropriate guidance and tools to manage employee matters.
  • Ensure compliance with UK employment law, data protection, equality, health & safety, and internal policies.
  • Provide HR metrics and reporting to support leadership decisions.
Essential Skills & Experience
  • Degree in Human Resources or related field.
  • Strong experience as an HR Manager or Head of HR within manufacturing or heavy engineering.
  • Strong HR metrics knowledge, HR systems, and database management.
  • Strategic capability with strong leadership skills.
  • Excellent listening, negotiation, presentation, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • In‑depth knowledge of UK employment law and HR best practice.
  • Proven track record delivering training programmes.
  • Strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and innovative problem‑solving abilities.
  • CIPD membership beneficial but not essential.
