Mechanical Engineering Manager

We’re seeking a highly skilled Engineering Manager to join our client in Chorley. In this role, you’ll lead and develop multidiscipline engineering teams while ensuring the compliant and safe delivery of projects from tender through to completion. Salary

£74,000 to £81,000 – depending on experience
 

Location and Working Pattern

Chorley, Lancashire – on-site staff position

Working week: 37 hours over 4 days (Monday to Thursday), plus a 30-minute unpaid lunch break each day
 

Client Overview

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage multidiscipline engineering teams to deliver safe, compliant designs.
• Define engineering delivery strategies and maintain cost, scope, and schedule baselines.
• Provide technical direction and approve engineering solutions and outputs.
• Ensure compliance with UK regulations, legislation, standards, and internal processes.
• Support bids and business-winning activities by preparing technical proposals.
• Identify and mitigate risks, implementing recovery plans as necessary.
• Engage with internal teams, clients, and the supply chain for integrated project planning.
• Foster a collaborative culture and mentor team members to develop capability.

 
Must-have Requirements

• Professionally registered engineer (or working towards) with a degree-level qualification (Level 6) in a relevant discipline.
• Proven track record in managing engineering delivery and leading teams.
• Strong knowledge of UK engineering legislation (e.g., CDM, PUWER, Machinery Directive).
• Experience managing complex projects, including budgets and schedules.
• Ability to provide technical assurance and ensure design compliance.

 
Nice-to-have Skills

• Previous experience in nuclear or other highly regulated industries.
• Understanding of CE/UKCA marking strategies and applicable standards.
• Familiarity with multidiscipline integration and digital engineering practices.
