Position: Senior Mechanical Engineer
 
Group: Projects

Location: Knutsford 

Hours: 8 hour days (40 hours per week).

Our client who are a multidisciplined consultantcy, are looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to work on an initial 6 months contract. You must have SC clearance already in place. 

You will be responsible for:
  • Ensuring the mechanical deliverables produced by the Projects Group are to the correct quality, standard and in compliance with procedures.
  • Mentoring less experienced mechanical engineers within the department.
  • Preparing copes of Work for installation contractors and delivering mechanical design work packages.
  • Attendance at project meetings and workshops – both internal and external.
  • Direct input or oversight of onsite construction and commissioning support, depending on the project.
Key Accountabilities/Responsibilities
As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will:
  • Supervise and lead other mechanical engineers.
  • Be responsible for the mechanical design, approving mechanical drawings and deliverables.
  • Develop and implement Company, National and International Standards.
  • Prepare cost, duration and resource estimates for proposals.
  • Prepare specifications, data sheets and issue enquiry packages to equipment suppliers.
  • Prepare Scopes of Work for installation contractors and deliver mechanical design work packages.
  • Attend Progress, Interdisciplinary, Constructability, HAZOP, HAZID, Risk Assessments, Client Meetings and workshops.
  • Attend client offices and undertake site visits around the UK and occasionally overseas if necessary.
  • Liaise with other discipline Engineers and Senior Management.
  • Prepare Specifications, Data Sheets for a variety of equipment types and issue of enquiry packages to equipment suppliers.
Onsite construction and commissioning support may be required depending on the project.

Minimum Requirements – Education and Experience
  • Degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Preferably chartered status or prepared to work towards.
  • You will have worked in a design and engineering environment and have experience of equipment specifications for a variety of equipment types and packages, pipe and valve specification, material selection and welding and fabrication.
  • Commissioning experience with particular bias towards pumps and vessel installation is very advantageous.
  • Knowledge of applicable industry regulations and standards including CDM, PER, PSSR, CE and UKCA marking is advantageous.
  • An ability to think strategically and understanding the implication of changes to contract scope.
  • An ability to work collaboratively with all engineering design and construction disciplines.
  • Effective communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Understanding of Designer and Principal Designer Roles under CDM.
  • Ideally basic skills for navigation around Navisworks 3D Model is desirable.
  • Skilled in Office 365 including One Drive and Sharepoint with proficient use of Word and Excel.
  • Eligible to live and work in the UK.
  • Full UK/EEC driving licence.
