Job Title: Civil Inspector
Location: Padeswood - site based 5 days per week
Project: Heidelberg
Duration: 12 months
Overview: Currently seeking a Civil & Structural Quality Inspector to work on our project site in Padeswood. This will be a contract role with a duration of 12 months.
The Civil & Structural Quality Control Inspector is responsible for providing independent inspection and surveillance of all civil, structural and architecture construction activities on our site in Padeswood. The role ensures works are executed in full compliance with approved drawings, specifications, Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), UK codes and standards, and project quality requirements.
The role requires a proactive site presence to monitor ongoing activities are being executed correctly in addition to conducting inspections in response to formal inspection notifications from contractors. The inspector will act as a key quality resource, providing objective verification independent of construction execution and supervision.
This role includes an element of administrative duties in the form of reporting and QC record keeping.
Responsibilities: Scope of Works The role covers inspection and surveillance of, but is not limited to, the following activities:
- Pre-construction readiness inspections
- Earthworks (cut and fill, ground preparation, compaction)
- Roadworks, pavements, and hardstanding construction
- Piling operations
- Foundations
- Underground drainage and services
- Structural steelwork (fabrication interface, erection, bolting, welding)
- Cladding systems and associated interface
Key Responsibilities Inspection & Surveillance- Conduct independent quality inspections and surveillance of civil and structural works in accordance with approved Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs) and construction programmes.
- Provide proactive, routine site surveillance during active construction to identify quality issues early, ensuring compliance with project standards and preventing costly rework.
- Perform reactive inspections in response to contractor Notifications of Inspection (NOI) / Requests for Inspection (RFIs).
- Verify that works are executed in compliance with approved drawings, specifications, and applicable standards.
Pre-Construction & Readiness- Participate in pre-construction inspections to confirm readiness of works, including verification of materials, equipment, permits, and approved documentation.
- Confirm that construction activities do not commence without approved ITPs, method statements, and relevant inspection hold points released.
Quality Compliance- Ensure compliance with applicable UK standards and project requirements, including BS EN standards, Design Codes, CDM Regulations, and relevant industry guidance.
- Verify correct implementation of testing regimes, including compaction testing, concrete testing (Slump Test & Concrete Cube Testing), pile integrity testing, and structural inspections.
- Witness tests and inspections as required by the ITPs and project specifications.
Documentation & Records- Accurately record inspection results, surveillance findings, and test outcomes in project quality records.
- Review and verify contractor quality documentation, including test results, material certificates, delivery records, and as-built information relevant to civils and structures.
- Ensure inspection records are completed promptly and uploaded to the project document management or Completions system as required.
- Update and submit daily/weekly QC reports to the Quality Manager and pro-actively maintaining the Site QC inspection tracker.
Non-Conformance Management- Identify and report non-conforming works through the project NCR process.
- Support investigation, implementation of corrective actions, and close-out of NCRs and observations.
- Verify that remedial works are completed in accordance with approved corrective action plans.
Interface & Communication- Maintain effective working relationships with contractors, construction supervision, engineering, and the project quality team while retaining independence from construction execution.
- Provide clear and factual feedback on quality issues, risks, and trends to the Construction Quality Lead & Project Quality Manager.
- Contribute to daily coordination meetings/toolbox talks to communicate updates on status of inspections, quality observations and emerging issues.
