Control Systems Engineer

We’re seeking an experienced Control Systems Engineer to join our team on an initial 12‑month contract in Warrington. This role is ideal for engineers with strong PLC programming experience who want to work on challenging, safety-critical projects in a regulated environment. You’ll develop your technical skills across multiple PLC platforms and work on full lifecycle projects from design to commissioning.

Location and Working Pattern

Hybrid working based in Warrington, typically requiring 2–3 days per week in the office. UK travel may be needed at key project stages such as site installation and commissioning.

 

Client Overview

Our client is a leading engineering organisation specialising in the delivery of complex, safety-critical control and automation systems for the nuclear sector. They pride themselves on technical excellence, robust delivery, and fostering collaborative engineering teams.

 

Responsibilities

• Design and develop PLC software across platforms such as Rockwell (Studio 5000), Siemens (TIA Portal) and Schneider (EcoStruxure)
• Configure and develop HMI / SCADA systems including FactoryTalk View, AVEVA, Citect, Siemens WinCC or Intouch Wonderware
• Support end-to-end project delivery, including concept design, integration, and testing (FAT, CAT, SAT)
• Provide onsite support for installation, commissioning and acceptance testing phases
• Diagnose issues and contribute to troubleshooting and resolution activities
• Produce clear technical documentation such as design specifications and user manuals
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams throughout project lifecycle

 

Must‑have Requirements

• Degree or HND in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems or equivalent experience
• Proven experience with PLC or SCADA programming in industrial environments
• Knowledge of IEC 61131 programming languages
• Hands-on experience in testing, commissioning, or system integration
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
• Ability to work effectively in project teams

 

Nice‑to‑have Skills

• Familiarity with Rockwell, Siemens or Schneider PLC platforms
• Background working within regulated sectors such as nuclear, oil & gas or pharmaceuticals
• Experience developing SCADA / HMI systems
• Willingness to expand technical knowledge across multiple platforms
