Cost Engineer — 6‑Month Contract (Outside IR35)

Location: Liverpool Docks

IR35: Outside

Start: ASAP

Own the numbers. Drive control. Keep a major project on track.

We’re looking for a Cost Engineer who can step straight into a live construction project and bring clarity, challenge and structure to project costs. You’ll be the go‑to person for accurate reporting, forecasting and variance analysis — giving the team the financial visibility they need to make confident decisions.

Perfect for someone who takes ownership, asks the right questions, and thrives in a fast‑moving environment.

What you’ll be doing

  • Preparing bi‑weekly and monthly cost reports, tracking actuals against forecasts with precision
  • Working closely with the PM, procurement and wider project team to ensure all commitments, variations and costs are captured and controlled
  • Challenging cost variances and helping develop mitigation plans
  • Interpreting CTRs, VOs and POs — understanding what’s billed, what’s committed and what’s to come
  • Reviewing RFQs, supporting bid evaluations and advising on supplier PO recommendations
  • Ensuring accurate cost capture within the client’s SAP system and resolving discrepancies quickly
  • Monitoring man-hours vs budget and highlighting any potential overruns early
  • Maintaining clear cost records, pricing models and dashboards to support decision‑making

What you’ll bring

  • Proven cost engineering experience in construction or major projects
  • Confidence in forecasting, reporting, cost analysis and financial controls
  • Strong Excel skills experience working with ERP systems (SAP preferred)
  • Ability to interpret technical project inputs and communicate clearly with stakeholders
  • A proactive approach to identifying risks, variances and improvement opportunities

Why this role?

A key role on a major project where your work will genuinely shape outcomes. Full autonomy, high visibility, a supportive team — and a clean Outside IR35 engagement.
