Senior EC&I / C&I Design Engineer – Major Nuclear Facility

12‑month Contract | Inside IR35 | Hybrid (Warrington / West Cumbria)

If you enjoy real engineering—the kind that shapes a plant’s performance for decades—this role will suit you. You’ll join a flagship nuclear project, where control systems, instrumentation and electrical design decisions genuinely matter.

This isn’t a paper‑pushing design role. It’s hands-on, supplier-facing, and integrated across the full CE&I lifecycle. You’ll help close out remaining design scope, support procurement and manufacturing activities, and make sure what’s being built on site matches the intent, the standards, and the safety case.

What you’ll be doing:

• Providing senior CE&I design support across procurement, manufacture, installation and commissioning.
• Managing CE&I design configuration as requirements develop and supplier information evolves.
• Producing, reviewing and approving CE&I deliverables in line with relevant standards and project deadlines.
• Working directly with suppliers: responding to technical queries, reviewing design packs, creating test specifications, and attending works testing/FAT.
• Integrating CE&I systems into wider plant systems using BIM and close collaboration with other disciplines.
• Supporting commissioning teams to ensure CE&I design intent, safety case demands, and functional requirements stay aligned.
• Ensuring Validation & Verification activities are completed, traceable, and properly controlled.

What you’ll bring:

• Strong background in CE&I, Control Systems, Automation or EC&I engineering.
• Experience delivering CE&I design across full project lifecycle stages on complex or regulated projects.
• Confidence managing suppliers, leading technical discussions and taking ownership of your design areas.
• Experience with V&V, FAT/SAT, design reviews and configuration control.
• HNC/HND, BEng/MEng or equivalent. Professional registration (or working toward it) is a plus.
