We’re seeking an experienced
EC&I Hardware Designer for an initial 12-month contract, based in Warrington (inside IR35). This role is ideal for an engineer with strong electrical design skills and experience in regulated industries, particularly nuclear. Location and Working Pattern Warrington – Hybrid working (2–3 days office-based per week with flexibility)
Client Overview Our client is a highly respected engineering organisation delivering complex and safety-critical control and automation systems within the nuclear sector. Their commitment to quality and technical excellence supports some of the most challenging and regulated projects in the UK.
Responsibilities- Design and develop electrical enclosures, control panels, and interface systems.
- Produce detailed AutoCAD drawings and comprehensive design packages.
- Prepare and manage assemblies, I/O schedules, cable calculations, and routing plans.
- Conduct power load and heat calculations to ensure system integrity.
- Support design reviews, site assessments, and engineering inspections.
- Collaborate with manufacturing teams to maintain quality in build and delivery.
- Produce supporting documentation including test specs, inspection reports, and installation method statements.
Must‑have Requirements- Proven experience using AutoCAD in electrical design.
- Strong background in EC&I hardware design for engineering projects.
- Knowledge of control panel or MCC design and electrical enclosure layouts.
- Familiarity with IET Wiring Regulations and CDM Regulations.
- Understanding of cable routing, system integration, and panel layouts.
- Excellent communication and team collaboration skills.
Nice‑to‑have Skills- Experience with PLC, HMI, or SCADA systems.
- Background in highly regulated sectors (e.g., nuclear, defence, pharma).
- Knowledge of functional safety standards such as IEC 61508.
- Familiarity with Sellafield standards.
