Grinding Operative
SummaryWe’re looking for committed individuals to join our Grinding team on an annual contract basis, working on a long-term framework project across several key UK regions. This role is ideal for colleagues with the required rail qualifications who want consistent work, development opportunities, and a chance to contribute to essential rail infrastructure. You’ll work night shifts with guaranteed minimum hours and the possibility of overtime.

Location and Working Pattern- Roles available across Wales & Western, Anglia and London North Western regions
- Night shifts (typically 11pm–12am starts)
- 4–5 hours on weekdays and approximately 8 hours at weekends
- Guaranteed 32 hours per week, plus opportunities for overtime
Responsibilities- Carry out rail grinding operations in line with Network Rail Standards, NRL’s Work Package Plan and compliance requirements
- Complete and return Daily Work Returns and TEFs within agreed timescales
- Maintain equipment and ensure PPE is fit for purpose
- Report incidents, accidents, Close Calls or vehicle issues promptly
- Maintain clear communication with SCO 24/7 and NRL 24/7
- Support team briefings and compliance requirements as instructed
- Assist with preparation work, HSEQ tasks and post-inspection activities when required
- Demonstrate understanding and implementation of Work Safe Procedures
Must-have Requirements- TR80 or TR25 qualification (either accepted)
- PTS (Personal Track Safety)
- Manual Handling, First Aid and Fire Awareness certification
- Full UK driving licence
Nice-to-have Skills- COSS competency
- 053/054 ticket – GSM training available for those holding this
- IOSH Managing Safely
- Level 3 Management qualification
