Summary

We’re seeking an experienced and proactive Grinding Supervisor (GSM) to lead our Grinding teams, uphold compliance, and drive operational success across multiple regions. This position is ideal for colleagues ready to take on leadership responsibilities while ensuring the safe and efficient delivery of rail grinding operations.

Location and Working Pattern

  • Positions available across Wales & Western, Anglia and London North Western regions
  • Night work aligned with operational schedules (typically from 11pm–12am)
  • Hands-on leadership role requiring regional travel
Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor the Grinding team in line with Network Rail Standards, training and NRL Work Package Plans
  • Complete and return Daily Work Returns and TEFs on time
  • Oversee servicing, calibration and care of all grinding equipment and the GSM vehicle
  • Submit team annual leave requests and manage workforce planning
  • Report incidents, Close Calls, and equipment or vehicle issues promptly
  • Maintain communication with SCO 24/7 and NRL support teams
  • Deliver team briefings and attend monthly GSM meetings
  • Support CPD activities and ensure adherence to compliance standards
  • Undertake scoping, quoting, preparation work and post-inspection reports when required
  • Assist in HSEQ initiatives and ensure full understanding of the Work Safe Procedure
  • Act as the primary contact for operational and safety communications
Must-have Requirements
  • PTS (Personal Track Safety)
  • Grinding Operative, 053 and GSM competencies
  • Manual Handling, First Aid and Fire Awareness certification
  • Full UK driving licence
Nice-to-have Skills
  • IOSH Managing Safely
  • COSS (Controller of Site Safety)
  • Level 3 Management qualification
