Project Engineer – MEP / Building Services


Role Overview

HS2 is seeking a Project Engineer (MEP / Building Services) to support delivery and assurance activities across tunnel portal buildings and pumping stations.

This role will work closely with the Senior Project Engineer and wider IPT, providing hands-on project engineering support during the contractor’s design development stage, with a focus on assurance, coordination, and integration of building services systems.

 

Project Scope
Supporting building services fit-out for:

Bromford, Long Itchington, and Burton Green tunnel portal buildings / shafts / Five pumping stations

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Support client-side project engineering and technical assurance activities for MEP and building services packages
  • Assist in reviewing and verifying the contractor’s self-assured design submissions
  • Help ensure MEP designs align with the agreed coordinated intent design and support eventual certification
  • Support assurance of multiple MEP sub-systems, including:
  • Electrical and mechanical services
  • HVAC
  • Power and lighting
  • Fire systems
  • Participate in technical reviews, workshops, and interface discussions with contractors
  • Support coordination activities to ensure seamless integration across building services and other disciplines
  • Provide assurance input during early design and delivery stages, ensuring quality, safety, and compliance outcomes

 

Required Experience & Skills

  • Experience in a project engineering role focused on MEP / building services
  • Background in contractor, consultancy, or client-side environments, with exposure to assurance or verification activities
  • Understanding of MEP system integration, particularly within complex or infrastructure-led projects
  • Ability to support design assurance rather than detailed design production
  • Good stakeholder engagement skills and ability to work within multi-disciplinary teams
  • Experience in rail, tunnelling, or major infrastructure projects is advantageous
