Shape Safety Strategy Across Complex Projects

We are working with a leading organisation in the nuclear and defence sector, seeking an experienced Senior Safety Case Consultant to play a key role in shaping safety strategies across highly regulated, complex engineering projects. This role offers hybrid working and flexibility across several UK locations.

Role Overview

As a Senior Safety Case Consultant, you will take a central role in delivering safety case work packages, applying your technical expertise to ensure robust, compliant, and defensible safety justifications. You will work across multidisciplinary teams, lead hazard assessments, develop safety documentation, and support the next generation of safety case professionals through coaching and mentoring.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and contribute to HAZID and HAZOP workshops, developing Hazard Management Strategies.
  • Author and verify radiological safety assessments, including dose calculations, ALARP justifications, and risk assessments.
  • Support the production and review of Safety Case documentation, including PSRs, PCSRs, and related reports.
  • Manage delivery of assigned work packages, tracking progress against scope, schedule, and cost, and escalating risks proactively.
  • Mentor junior colleagues, supporting their technical development and ensuring high‑quality safety case outputs.
  • Maintain oversight of safety case strategies across multiple projects, promoting best practice and consistency.

Essential Experience
We are looking for candidates with strong technical safety case expertise, including:

  • Demonstrable experience in the production of nuclear safety cases and supporting assessments.
  • Strong understanding and practical application of the ALARP principle.
  • Knowledge of ONR Safety Assessment Principles (SAPs) and associated regulatory frameworks.
  • Ability to work effectively with engineering, radiological protection, and other technical disciplines.
  • Experience of delivering integrated solutions within complex project environments.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Engineering or a Scientific discipline (or equivalent relevant experience).
  • Chartered status is preferred, or active progression toward chartership.

Security Clearance

Due to the nature of the work, candidates must be eligible to obtain and maintain SC (Security Check) clearance.
