Automation & Control Systems Specialist Energy from Waste (EfW)
Location: Remote working (based from Farnborough)
We are supporting a global innovation-led organisation operating at the forefront of waste infrastructure and waste-to-energy solutions. Through advanced technology and engineering expertise, this business transforms waste into valuable resources including energy, heat and alternative fuels — playing a key role in supporting a more sustainable future.
Due to continued growth, they are now looking to appoint an Automation & Control Systems Specialist to support digital services projects and provide control systems expertise across multiple operational sites.
This role will form part of a newly established digital services execution team, delivering and supporting automation and control system solutions across UK operations. The position is primarily UK home-based, with support to operational sites as required.
Key responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):
- Control System Maintenance & Support - Providing technical support, routine maintenance and troubleshooting for control systems such as Valmet DNA, Siemens PCS7, and Emerson DeltaV or Ovation.
- System Upgrades & Configuration - Configuring and upgrading control systems to meet evolving operational requirements, including hardware updates, software patches, and control strategy enhancements.
- Troubleshooting & Diagnostics - Diagnosing and resolving complex technical issues across hardware, software, networks and field instrumentation to minimise downtime.
- System Commissioning - Supporting the commissioning and start-up of new or upgraded control systems, including hardware installation, software configuration and systems integration.
- Customer Training & Technical Support - Delivering training and ongoing technical support to operational teams, promoting best practice in system use, maintenance and safety.
Essential requirements:
- Degree-qualified in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, or a related discipline
- Solid experience working with industrial control systems, particularly:
- Valmet DNA
- Siemens PCS7
- Emerson DeltaV or Ovation
- Hands-on experience with system integration, HMI/SCADA platforms and field instrumentation
- Strong proficiency in PLC/DCS control logic development and system design
- Working knowledge of industrial communication protocols (e.g. Profibus, Modbus, OPC, Ethernet/IP)
- Good understanding of servers, databases and data historians
