You will provide direction, coaching, and oversight to a team of engineers and supervisors, ensuring that commissioning activities meet quality, safety, schedule, and performance requirements. The role may also include holding a Technical Independent position on separate projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership and management across commissioning teams to deliver all engineering and commissioning activities to the required technical scope and quality.
  • Ensure engineering processes, standards, and tools are applied consistently and in line with Babcock policies.
  • Oversee delivery of multi‑discipline engineering activities for low‑complexity projects, or a single medium‑complexity engineering project.
  • Provide independent assurance and technical oversight as required across other projects.
  • Integrate best practice engineering methodologies to resolve moderately complex problems and drive successful project outcomes.
  • Manage team performance, allocate resources, and adapt departmental plans to meet operational demands.
  • Influence internal and external stakeholders, guiding decision‑making and ensuring alignment with project objectives.
  • Ensure commissioning activities validate functionality, performance, and readiness of assets, systems, or facilities for operational use.
  • Support continuous improvement and innovation within the team by encouraging new ideas and varied perspectives.
About the Engineering & Commissioning Function This role sits within the wider Engineering family, responsible for designing, developing, testing, and maintaining systems, structures, and equipment across operational and construction environments. The Commissioning discipline specifically focuses on:
  • Bringing assets, systems, or facilities into operational condition following construction.
  • Independently verifying design and build outputs.
  • Ensuring performance, functionality, and operational requirements are met.
  • Testing systems, subsystems, and components to confirm readiness and compliance.
Your work may support new-build projects or upgrades, expansions, and refurbishments of existing assets.

Leadership Expectations As a leader of people, you will:

  • Encourage new ideas and support innovative approaches.
  • Make effective decisions using analysis, experience, and insight.
  • Promote urgency, accountability, and high performance across your team.

  • Create an environment where people feel heard and valued.
  • Promote diversity and inclusion, ensuring all voices are recognised.

  • Model openness, authenticity, and reliability.
  • Secure new opportunities and support improved business outcomes.
Ideal Candidate Profile You will be a strong people leader with proven experience managing engineering or commissioning teams, ideally within a complex, regulated environment. You should bring:
  • Deep understanding of engineering and commissioning processes.
  • Strong leadership, stakeholder engagement, and decision‑making skills.
  • Experience resolving technical challenges and driving continuous improvement.
  • Ability to guide and motivate a team while delivering results through others.
