Electrically‑Biased Operations Manager – Lighting Lifecycle Programme (NHS Estate)

Location: Manchester Hospital Estate, M13 
Clearance: DBS Required
Contract: Until 27th September 2026

Overview

An fulfilling opportunity has arisen for an Electrically‑Biased Operations Manager to lead a major hospital‑wide lighting lifecycle programme and take full responsibility for all emergency lighting remedials across a large Manchester healthcare estate.
This role demands a technically strong, highly autonomous leader with proven hospital electrical experience. You will work closely with senior stakeholders, oversee contractors, and drive both strategic lifecycle planning and operational delivery.
This is a critical post supporting a high‑risk clinical environment — only candidates with genuine NHS/healthcare FM experience will be considered.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Delivery
  • Develop the full lighting lifecycle strategy, including design, sequencing, manufacturer engagement and programme planning.
  • Produce detailed technical reports, condition surveys, risk assessments and lifecycle planning documents.
  • Build and maintain a long‑term multi‑year (approx. 5‑year) replacement programme for lighting assets.
 Operational Delivery
  • Lead and manage all emergency lighting remedials across the estate.
  • Coordinate subcontractors and supply chain partners for backlog clearance and fitting replacements.
  • Oversee reactive and planned maintenance delivered by external service partners.
  • Ensure full compliance with statutory standards, NHS requirements, HTMs, and EQUANS processes.
 Stakeholder Management
  • Influence and engage senior internal/external stakeholders including Sodexo and the NHS Trust.
  • Collaborate with internal engineering, compliance, and operational teams.
  • Provide expert technical guidance across the estate and act as a trusted electrical specialist.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
  • Strong electrical background (Degree or equivalent essential).
  • Hospital / healthcare FM experience
  • Proven experience managing contractors and technical delivery.
  • Strong understanding of statutory electrical compliance and high‑risk environments.
  • Ability to work autonomously, make decisions, and take ownership.
  • Experience working on large estates (NHS preferred).
  • DBS clearance (or willingness to obtain).
