Cost Engineer

Cost Engineer (12 month Maternity Cover) – Warrington | Hybrid/Flexible Working | 2 days per week in the office

Do you enjoy getting into the detail, spotting issues early and turning complex numbers into clear, confident decisions? Amentum Technology is looking for a proactive Cost Engineer to join an established project controls team and keep projects on track while covering a period of maternity leave.

This is a brilliant role for someone who naturally takes ownership, communicates confidently with stakeholders, and genuinely likes bringing order to busy project environments. You’ll be based primarily in Warrington, with hybrid, part-time and flexible working available — and a requirement to be in the office 2 days per week.

What you’ll be doing

• Supporting Project Managers to deliver projects on time and within budget
• Setting up projects, managing close-out and reconciliations
• Ensuring accurate cost allocation and maintaining clean project financials
• Producing cost forecasts and meaningful financial analysis (not just reporting)
• Monitoring revenue, gross margin and project performance against expectations
• Keeping corporate systems accurate and reflective of real project status
• Tracking aged debt and supporting recovery actions where needed
• Preparing client monthly reports and internal packs for Operational Project Reviews
• Contributing to monthly project meetings and supporting bids/proposals
• Helping with wider project controls such as earned value, change control, early warnings, KPIs, risk & opportunity and resource monitoring

• Strong stakeholder skills — able to challenge constructively and build trust
• High confidence in Excel (formulas, lookups, pivot tables, data validation)
• A sharp eye for detail and a knack for creating clarity from complexity
