  1. MANADATE
To support or lead design activities towards delivering technical compliant MV and HV interconnection projects with a focus on the secondary plant and HV/MV protection aspects of the interconnection facilities.

To take ownership and responsibility to ensure all technical/contractual requirements are considered and implemented enabling the successful completion of the projects.

To support the development and operations of projects through technical assessments/investigations, due diligence studies and designs by engaging the various business units and relevant external stakeholders.

4. CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  1. Operating System
    1. Follow the guidelines and prescribed structures as outlined by the company’s operating system
    2. Provide continuous input towards improvement and optimisation of the company’s operating system
  2. Support to Project / Business Development
    1. Support and review protection and secondary plant interconnection solutions accurately and timeously based on the information provided.
    2. Support in evaluating the technical business case and provide input to the plausibility of the project
    3. Review preliminary plant and utility grid simulation models to estimate, amongst others, the size of compensation equipment like STATCOMs/Cap Banks or SVCs.
  3. Support to Structuring Phase of projects with a detailed focus on protection / telecoms and secondary plant
    1. Develop and establish the technical base case and specifications of the project related to its interconnection works.
    2. Review and evaluate technical documentation and contracts (PPA, Grid Code, Connection Agreement, etc.) to establish technical requirements to be implemented in the interconnection solutions.
    3. Support Supply Chain Management on compilation and evaluation of RFP documents and supplier responses
    4. Conduct detailed due diligence and investigations to conclude on technology selections where relevant for interconnection works. This would include protection studies, settings reviews, telecoms solutions etc.
    5. Manage, coordinate and compile the secondary plant system design package for interconnection works. Detail design will be mostly outsourced, but the party to which it is outsourced needs to be managed. Detailed designs of Secondary plant/ SCADA/ Telecoms and protection will need to be reviewed before submission to the contractor.
    6. Draft and/or approve technical schedules for various contracts (PPA, (S)-EPC, O&M, etc.) related to the interconnection works.
    7. Support Execution Team with planning and alignment of technical aspects of secondary plant of the project.
    8. Manage, coordinate and review the detailed engineering design package / process for the interconnection works. This would include reviews of all aspects of secondary plant, substation protection equipment, transmission line protection equipment, protection studies, settings reports, CT sizing and all interfaces with the substation primary plant.
    9. Ensure that all relevant design information identified throughout the structuring phase is implemented in the detailed designs that will be issued for construction.
    10. Support in stakeholder engagements (utility, LTA, suppliers, contractors, etc.) to establish requirements, resolve matters critical to reaching Financial Close
    11. Review Power Factory DigSilent models to evaluate solutions w.r.t. Grid Code Compliance.
  4. Support to projects in delivery/execution
    1. Ensure the interconnection facilities are constructed correctly as per the design, with focus on the secondary plant aspects.
    2. Review and approve design change request or proposals in the event of deviations from the Issued for Construction designs
    3. Conduct site visits to monitor and ensure design expectations are implemented
    4. Support and drive testing and commissioning activities towards Plant Energization and Commercial Operation Date
    5. Support in project close out phase towards TTO
  5. Support to O&M (Operations & Maintenance)
    1. Support to resolve matters identified during operations
    2. Investigate and implement solutions towards improving relevant operational / functional systems within the project
 

  1. CRITICAL QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES
Qualifications

Minimum:

Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical / Electronical Engineering

An excellent knowledge of the entire MS Office Suite

 

Ideal:

Project Management Certificate

Master’s degree in Engineering

Further training in secondary plant, telecom, and High Voltage protection systems.

PowerFactory DigSilent / ETAP / PSCAD Training

 

Experience

Min:

4 years electrical engineering experience

This includes the following:

2 years project environment experience

5 years distribution and reticulation design experience

 

Ideal:

Experience in AutoCAD

Experience in RE Project interconnection design and execution

Site Based Experience
