HV Quality Lead Inspector

Department: Quality and Governance 

Organisation: HSSE & Quality (Operations)

Title of Line Manager: Site Quality Manager



MANDATE

To lead and oversee the quality inspection activities of high voltage electrical systems and HV Substation, ensuring compliance with project specifications, industry standards, and safety regulations, while coordinating with the quality inspection team and coordinating with project stakeholders to deliver high-quality HV infrastructure.

 

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead and coordinate the HV QA/QC inspection team, managing inspection schedules, allocating resources, and ensuring comprehensive coverage of all HV electrical systems and components inspections on site.
  • Oversee hold and witness points execution per Inspection Test Plans (ITPs) and coordinate with subcontractors and contractors to ensure compliance with project quality requirements.
  • Develop, review, and enforce HV electrical QA/QC plans, procedures, and protocols aligned with IEC standards, client specifications, and national regulations.
  • Ensure that all HV inspection activities—from cable installation, switchgear assembly, transformer testing to substation energization—adhere strictly to quality and safety standards.
  • Ensure compliance with factory acceptance testing (FAT), site acceptance testing (SAT), and pre-commissioning/commissioning protocols.
  • Validate results of HV electrical testing, including insulation resistance, partial discharge, relay protection tests, and cable jointing quality.
  • Serve as the primary quality interface between engineering, construction, commissioning, and client teams for HV electrical systems.
  • Facilitate quality meetings, trainings, and updates to promote continuous quality improvement and compliance awareness on site.
  • Support commissioning and start-up phases by ensuring quality standards are met, thereby reducing system failures and warranty claims.
  • Record and monitor test outcomes, issuing reports, NCRs (Non-Conformance Reports), and corrective actions for any deficiencies.
  • Prepare regular status and quality reports, document site issues, and track corrective actions through completion.
  • Provide advice on best practices, code compliance, and technical solutions for site teams and contractors.

CRITICAL QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES

6.1 Qualifications

  • Diploma or bachelor’s degree in Power Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in HV Stations Quality Control.
  • IT knowledge – familiar with SharePoint and MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, familiarity with quality management software is an asset).
  • Language: fluent both written and spoken in English.
  • Strong understanding of quality management systems and applicable IEC, ASTM, ISO, and local standards.
  • Hands-on experience in site inspections, reporting, and follow-up of non-conformities.
